Is it a Nikon, or a Canon IXUS 40? Are you using disposable batteries or rechargeable? Are they fresh/charged?

Could be several reasons, but just make sure the battery door is fully closed as there is a switch on the door that musr be closed. Other than taht, camera will need to be serviced.

The IXUS 40 is called the SD300 in some parts of the world. If you feel confident about doing the replacement yourself, you can order the part from

Good morning, re: Canon Ixus 40 camera. Disassembeled the lense assembly. Lookibg for a step by step assembly instruction - how to insert and align correctly the lense concentric cylinders. Thanks Amos

From memory, you can unsolder the motor using solderwick. I would advise against unsoldering the photointerrupter however as it could be damaged easily. It wont completely detatch the circuit but will give you enough to dissassemble. Hope this helps.

Ixus 40 maximum SDHC card

Your camera is not compatible with SDHC type cards. No 4gb cards for you. It looks like 2gb (non SDHC) cards are the biggest you can use.
