Need replacement Gateway 500 Media Center motherboard

Well of the 4 things needed for a pc to power on and work, you have replaced two. Next would be the mother board or CPU so if you have spare parts to test with I would try those.

My PC Gateway Media Center 820 will not post. Shows only a monitor test box on the screen. Fans are running. For awhile it would still operate sometimes and do this sometimes. Now only this. A friend says...

It could be the graphics card, try another power supply, somtimes the power begins to fail and not pump out enough to start the pc properly, so before changing the graphics try the power supply.

You could take the cmos battery out for 30 secs and then try to reboot the mechine.

Power cuts off or does not start

Check the power cord if it is connected correctly, if does then probably there is problem with the power supply or in the motherboard. Try also replacing the power cords of the power supply.

Multi speed fan on Gateway too loud..

You may have more than one fan.
The fan in the power supply may not be replaced, but you can replace the switch mode power supply with a newer model that has a larger fan that is very quite.
The same goes for the second fan (if you have one) that is inside the case.
Most computer suppliers have better designed and quiter fans.

Power supply installation in gateway 610xl

to replace a standard ATX powersupply;

remove left hand side cover (ensure power is disconnected first);
disconnect the 20.24 pin primary power plug (big wide white one plugs directly onto the mainboard, also disconnect the 4 pin AUX power plug, looks just like the other one but is a smaller square shaped plug (older P3 boards will not have this)

disconnect all 4 pin power plugs from hard drives/cd drives and aftermarket fans (if any are installed), disconnect SATA power plugs from any SATA devices installed (flat black plug, 4 wires)

disconnect floppy drive power plug (if app) small while 4 pin power plug, once all of these are disconnected, looking at the rear of the computer there will be 4 screws holding the power supply in place, one screw will be more to the centre slightly to ensure you do not put it in upside down, once you remove those screws the power supply will slide right out.. simply re-do these steps in revers for instaling the new power supply

Gateway Power Supply

It's not likley the power usage that did in the power supply unless you split the feeds numerous times. The switch should be straightforward, unplug all the feeds paying attention to what you unplug and only unplug what comes from the power supply. It should be a simple matter then to unscrew the supply from the case, remove the old and reverse the operation.
