I deleted too much stuff off my 1g emachine desktop and now it wont even start windows says its missing the boot manager. how can i fix it without a backup disk

Hi ,
Unfortunaly , you can't . You need the install disc . You can retreive existing data by extracting the hdd from your desktop and connect it to a healthy computer . Format the HDD afterwards , put it back into the desktop and launch install disc .

Tip

How to Rip/Copy a DVD to a Backup Image (ISO/MDS) using DVD Shrink

In this tip , I will show you how to backup your DVD's to your computer or to burn them to another disc using DVD Shrink. This is very useful if you have DVD's that YOU OWN but don't want the original to get damaged or if you would like to watch it on your PC.

Note that it is illegal to copy any DVD if your do not own the original. (Check your country's copyright laws)

Firstly , you will need the program. CLICK HERE to go to the download site.

For the program's main page CLICK HERE

DVD Shrink is freeware but if you want , you may make a donation which will help with the upkeep of the program by clicking HERE.

Once downloaded , insert your DVD into the DVD drive of your computer and open the program. Now click on the Open Disc icon and select the DVD you inserted into the drive from the drop down menu.

In my case , I will be using a an original disc of a popular series. Press okay once you have selected the disc you want to backup. The disc will now be analyzed which should not take more than 5min.

Once complete , the program will display the basic layout of the DVD.

db72b1c.jpg

Here , you can choose to remove certian objects from the DVD to save space. Most comercial DVD's are written on single sided double layer DVD9 discs which can hold 8GB of video. You will probably want to write it to a normal 4.7Gb single sided single layer disc. For this to be possible , the quality of the video must be reduced. Thus , the more extra's you can remove , the more space will be available for video leading to better video quality. The program automatically adjusts the video to fit onto a 4.7 Gb disc.

For instance on the disc I have inserted , I decided to remove the director's comments as well as the Norwegian Subtitles to save space. It's never really necessary to remove the subtitles as they occupy very little space anyways.

It's also not necessary to have more than one sound track on the disc. If you are going to be playing your DVD on your 5.1 sound system , there is no use for the 2.1 sound and you may remove it.

The aim is to get the compression ratio as big as possible as this will govern the quality of the backup.

You can also edit the the movie in re author mode which can save much more space on the disc , but I will be demonstrating this in another tip to keep this one as simple as possible.

Once you are done unchecking unnecessary extra's on the disc , select the backup button.

c82ce15.jpg

You will not get the backup dialog screen. Here you may choose how the disc is backed up and where the backup is stored. I prefer backing up to a ISO image file as I can either watch it on my PC using a virtual DVD drive like Deamon Tools Lite or write it to a disc later using most burning software. If you are using Nero burning software , you will be able to burn the disc directly from the following screen under the format options.

5e1390f.jpg

Just below the "Backup Target" format , you may select where on your computer the file should be stored.

c9e3a16.jpg

When your done , select OK and the backup will start. This should take anywhere from 30min to 2h depending on the quality of the rip and the length of the video.

Uncheck the "enable video preview" button to speed up the ripping process.

You may burn this image with most burning software or on Windows Vista or later , simply double click on the image to burn it with the Windows Built in burner.

Please remember to rate this tip if you found it useful.

Kind Regards

Windows 7 will burn me a backup and rescue but opens them and other things to file instead of run , I think its internal and bad windows 7 . Posible not formatting right as it will not recognize any data...

Windows 7 will not open files or anything else that you have backed up. The backup is to RESTORE files and programs that have gotten damaged due to a hard drive crash. You want to save things to a cd/dvd just use file copy not backup. Like i said backup is NOT for file storage. Hope this helps

1st Option: Go to BIOS level and select the CD/DVD device is the first device for boot option and then insert the recovery CD/DVD to format or install OS.
2nd Option: If recovery CD/DVD got curropted and you are having the other OS CD/DVD, then try to load and format or install the OS. Also try to download the recovery image from vendor website.

I want to reboot my acer AC711 desktop computer its original settings but i am not sure how to do that.

You would need to revert back to the original backup you would have been prompted to do when you first bought the Acer, if you didn't back up the sytem, you will need an original windows disc to format and reinstall Windows from scratch, this will not include any programmes originally issued with the sytem
