DMC-TZ3... it has not been dropped or wet...was working fine, then not.... the lens cover opens fine but does not show any image when you turn it on...if you push the button to take a photo the flash works but it does not take any photo...I think the shutter is not opening.

Hi there please follow the steps and let me know the result.
1. Ensure batteries are fully charged & clean the battery connector point in side the battery compartment.
2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.
3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck
4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.
If no luck then we have to try some things that could possibly result in damaging your camera so should only be tried if happy to take that risk...

5. Try thumping the camera into your other hand, by thumping into your hand you are trying to jar the mechanism loose, by using your hand you will hopefully not do it too hard or it will hurt. You may need to do this a dozen or so times in different places to work. I have found the flat of the camera bottom into the flat of your hand best..
6. If the lens is stuck in the out position then remove the batteries and try twisting the lens first one way then the other, do not apply excessive force when doing this or you can break gears, you are trying to reposition not force... Likewise if the lens looks like it is crooked you can try pushing it back into position. This has a higher chance of doing more harm than the thump so please be careful...
7. Dismantle the camera, not for the faint hearted, you need to dismantle the lens assembly into the main body of the camera

If no luck then only other option is a serviceman I'm afraid, be sure to get a quotes as camera repairs can be uneconomical

My Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 was soaked in water. It isn't working, will it work when it drys out?

It depends on how wet it was, if the entire thing was submerged, or even a large portion, it probably will not.it may turn on but it is likely that the lens will be damaged permanently. However if it was just wet upon the outside, like it was used out side during a rain fall, and then wiped dry every thing should be fine.It all depends, try drying it out thoroughly, letting it sit out with all lens caps and lens attachments removed, battery doorway open. is the best thing you can do. I hope that everything works out for you. God bless...

The lens cover won't close when powered off

I am loath to suggest hitting it hard (which is what I usually do to mine!) but one solution that tends to work well on the TZ3 is to pop the end of a shop-vac over it when it's turned on. This will **** out any gunk that has got in there that may be blocking it.

Hi I have a panasonic tz3 camera that when i turn it on it after 3 sec turns to please turn camera off and then on again the cover in front does not open up either any idea?

The cover not opening is a common problem with the TZ3, but this should not cause the waring message. Has the camera been bumped hard or dropped?

Try rapping the camera smartly against the heel of your other hand, or on a harder surface cushioned by a double layer of bath towel. You can also coax the lens cover open with a toothpick.

The error your seeing is common for lens problems, either unable to extend or retraced. Sometime you can overcome these problem by giving the lens or cover some manual help. Otherwise, repairmen on ebay buy them for repair, and working used ones are available on ebay at a good price, likely much better than what a local camera shop would charge you, and much better than what Panasonic would charge you.

If you take the ebay option, you can weigh the option of upgrading tp the TZ5, but the TZ5 is not worth upgrading to if bought new. Don't be fooled with a large pixel figure. TZ3 is a very nice camera to have. I love the wide angle and long zoom..

Lens won't come out

If the camera is powering on as indicated by a normal screen, you can sometimes coax out the lens by rapping the camera against the heal of your other hand, or a hard surface covered with a cushion, like a double with towel.

The idea is to try to free it up without damaging the camers. This problem is common on cameras if dropped or have a few years on them. It is even more common for the Lens Cover on the TZ3 to behave this way. If it is the plastic lens cover that won't open, you can coax it open with a toothpick and if it closes again, I would just carefully pull this plastic cover right out and as a manual plastic cover that will fit the lense.

In any case, it is getting dated by the TZ5, so an alternate is to sell the defectic TZ3 on Ebay and buy a newer TZ5, new or used, on ebay to replace it. Reparmen buy popular cameras like the TZ3 to fix and resell them. If you have everything that came with it, including the box, it is probably worth $40 as is.

Panasonic tz3 cover gets stuck

Common problem with TZ3. You can try to lub lens cover using graphite lub. Use it sparingly and after lens works, wipe off excess with dust cloth. Be sure not to get any on lens itself.

If lub doesn't work, you can pull out the lens cover altogether and find a manual lens cap the will fit.

The other option is to sell it on ebay to a repairman in a auction and replace it with another working used ones. Keep your accessories and by a used one cheap without accessories.
