Picture will have red tint most of the time. Sometimes works great then turns red. Sometimes starts red then goes back to normal. Sometimes picture is almost completely red and images are blurred. What could cause this? I'm thinking something is going out.

Hi,

One thing you can try is turning off the TV and then unplug it for 30 seconds or so. Then plug it back in, turn it on, and see if the problem has cleared up. If you're lucky, the problem may be solved this simply.

I know this might sound odd, but you could also try unplugging your Cable/Satellite from the TV for a while and watch some DVD Movies or something like that. I've heard of this fixing issues like the one you are having. I'm not sure why it works, but I've seen many situations where it does fix the problem.

If the above doesn't work, it is possible a wedge that centers the yoke around the picture tube has deteriorated and fallen out. That would effect the color purity. You could check to see if this is the problem by removing the rear cover of the TV set and looking for a wedge that could have fallen. It should be laying in there somewhere if this is the case. Also, it never hurts to do a thorough inspection while you have the rear cover removed to see if you notice anything else out of the ordinary.

NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE TV FROM ANY POWER SOURCE BEFORE REMOVING THE REAR COVER!

This could also be due to problem in the red cathode section in your TV.

The following could be checked as they are possible reasons for this problem:

  • Voltage on red video ckt.
  • Loose or print cut in red ckt.
  • CRT base loose.
  • Problem in red signal processing line.
  • Signal processor is defective
  • Connector loose somewhere.
If you are not able to figure it out yourself or don' t feel comfortable doing anything I have mentioned above, you may have to take the TV in to get it serviced.

I hope this helps! If it does, please be sure to leave me a good rating and some feedback. I would greatly appreciate it!

Best Regards,

James

Video is taking on a red tint which is getting worse over time

check the cable connections. look at different inputs. VGA and Component cables have the colors split, so if it's turning red, green, or blue; it's likely a cable or connector.

KV-32FS120 makes a loud noise and green tint when turned on

Loud noise is possibly made by Degausing Coil to demagnetize picture tube and its normal.
Green tint shows picture tube is bit weak in electron emission due to its age and takes time to present good white balance result (good colors)

This may be a bad crt or picture tube. Take a good look at the picture when it's on and see if it has a pinkish or greenish tint. This is easiest to see if you turn the color adjustment all the way down. If it looks like the tint is green or pink and the focus isn't great then it's probably a bad crt. Not worth repairing if its the tube.

Panasonic Rear Projection TV -dark picture

Javabean,
First off I think you meant Panasonic PT-51G44A which is an AP815 chassis. That unit has an all to common failure of the capacitor at C581 on the D board which is a 33uf/160v cap. Replace it and I think that will solve the problem..

Interesting problem ,only speakers or magnets disrupt the purity of the picture unless you have an internal color problem ,the is a circuit that cleans the picture automatically and is the degaussing circuit, this circuit only works when you turn on your tv ,what we need to do is unplug the set from the wall for about 15 minutes and then plug it back in and turn it on,at that very second the degaussing circuit should clean your picture.Sometimes if you move the tv while is on it will also give you this symptom. Let Us know how it goes in a form of a new question or if you need more information.
