With the drive connected to your computer and powered on, go to the Start Menu and you will see where it says "Computer" or "My Computer" (depending on operating system). Right click on "Computer" or "My Computer" and a menu will appear.

On that menu click on "Manage" and it will open up the Computer Management window.

In the Computer Management window you will see "Disk Management" on the left towards the bottom. Click on that.

In the Disk Management window you will see a list of all of your drives and partitions. Find the hard drive that has the missing partition and see if the missing partition shows up in there. Make sure it shows that the partition is formatted as a filesystem that Windows will recognize such as NTFS and also make sure that it is assigned a drive letter.

If the partition is formatted and does not have a drive letter assigned, Right-Click on the partition and a menu will appear. On that menu, click on "Change Drive Letter and Paths". That will open a dialog box that will take you through the steps of assigning a drive letter to that partition. Once you finish, it should show up in "Computer" or "My Computer" as a drive.

If the partition is not formatted to NTFS or the filesystem you would like it to be (NTFS is recommended for Windows), just Right-Click on the partition and the menu will appear. On that menu click on "Format" and go through the process of formatting the partition to NTFS or your preferred filesystem and it should format the partition and assign a drive letter to the partition and should now show up on your computer.

WARNING: If you format the partition, you will lose any data on that partition and you may not be able to recover the lost data.

I hope this helps! If it does, please leave me a good rating and feedback. I would greatly appreciate it!

Best Regards,

James

My hard drive has been split, how do I make it back into one?

You can delete both partitions and then create a single partition and then format the partition.
If you do not want to delete the partitions and lose your data then you can use a program called Partition Magic to resize your main partition so it is a single partition.

I want to format my 2 T hard drive from NTSF to fat 32 , how to do please help

Ok this fix will erase all Partitions on the drive, Make sure you have all data back'd up.
Open Command:
Go to Start menu > All programs > Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. Or Type cmd in Start menu search box and hit Ctrl+ Shift+ Enter.
You should have a black MS-DOS prompt on your screen. Type DISKPART in and press enter. Another window will open
Type: list disk It will the display list of devices with memory storage. Find your disk, It should be in a Table(kinda). You have to locate it by its size. so look for 1TB(1000GB) In this Example its Disk 2, yours may differ.
type in: Select disk 2
Execute the rest one by one: CLEAN CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SELECT PARTITION 1 FORMAT FS=FAT32 ASSIGN EXIT
Wait for one command to complete before running another
You should be left with a working FAT32 Device :P

Is it possible to keep the operating system on drive c and the data on drive d and how to do this

yes, partition the drive...
If installing a new OS, Partition drive one with 1/4 of the drives size, then install the os to that partition, once installed if using Windows, partition 1 should show as C: drive, and partition 2 should show as an additional drive.. Each Partition will show as a separate drive..

If the OS is already installed, you can use a program such as partition magic, or you can use MS disc manage (right click My Computer, Select Manage)..

Partition problem

In my humble opinion, the best option is to install a second (blank or larger) drive. Install some recovery software such as "easy recovery pro" or something that will be able to read files from a filesystem that has had the partition table written over. Start with trying to scan using FAT32, and in failing that, try NTFS. Restore the data to the second drive, format the first and partition as required. Copy the data back to the first drive to the partitions that you specified, and erase the data from the second drive. A free option may be pandora recovery, available at http://www.pandorarecovery.com/features/

Partition parameter

From the data you provided, the D drive is deleted and is newly created. But it is not yet formatted. So the data is virtually deleted. Why I said virtually is because, the data is still there on the drive physically and you can recover it using third party tools like OO disk recovery tool. That is why partition magic is still showing data on it.
And it is also obvious that the task which Partition Magic started (splitting drives) is not finished properly. That is why K partition is incorrectly formatted. It is natural that it asks format of D drive because D drive belongs to no file type and it must be of FAT32 or NTFS or other file system.
The solution for your problem is try recovering your data on D drive using disk recovery tools. Then format it using FAT32 or NTFS. Format K drive also in FAT32 or NTFS. Use either partition magic or Computer Management. Since already PM caused problems on your computer, try computer management. It is safe.

175gb missing from 250GB hard drive

Hi,

Appreciate the "Ask Me".

The only plausible explanation for the missing disk space would be the protected folder "System Volume Info".

Re-formatting would not restore your free space, however, re-partitioning would. May I suggest that you try PowerQuest Partition Magic. Of course like formatting, re-partitioning would completely delete the partition itself and would grant you back the entire disk space.

Unfortunately you can not use the same with the 1st partition since that is your active partition and presumably where your OS is residing. A workaround is to use another hard disk temporarily and transfer all the contents of partition 1 and make that eventually as your primary HD. Thereafter, re-partition again the entire 250Gb HD.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

PS2 HDD Partition Error

Hi,
A Partition error is the amount of segments that the hard-drive is split into.
For example we have 1 hard-drive Named C:/ Which Is 20 gigabytes. Then we decide that we want to use A Quarter of that drive, solely for saving games On. So 5 gigabytes Will Now Be allocated For Game-saves, This Will be known as Partition 2 Or D:/ So we now have 2 Partitions 1 is C:/ And 1 Is D:/ Partition C:/ is Currently 15 Gigabytes, And Partition D:/ is 5 Gigabytes.
Making a total Of 20 Gigabytes. So if your getting a partition error, it,s either because the game your attempting to transfer Is larger than the Partition, thats trying to receive it. You may be sending 4 gig to a 3.5 gig partition. Or your attempting to send it to a partition that is incorrect or inadequately lettered/numbered.
I hope this enables you to understand, the basics of Partitions on drives.
