Put the machine onto drain position if it still makes the noise it is something stuck in the pump check and clear filter if makes noise only when drum turning then is highley suspect bearings have failed.

Indesit W123 drum not moving. Will turn freely and quietly both directions if spun by hand. Sounds like going through cycle and dial turns as is going through programme. Made a whirring noise when ini

It is so common that the washing machine can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor /drum suspension has to be inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs, the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in position. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts cane solve most issues.

Remove all the load and try to move the drum manually clockwise and anti clockwise. If you notice any friction check the motor separately and the agitator assembly separately.
It could be due to alignment shift causing a wobbly motion or a failure of the bearings.

My 2005 Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II washer makes a thump/click sound during the wash/rinse cycles. It also sounds like it is slipping gears or there is something caught that is catching every so often....

Machine makes awful noise during any movement, spins very slowly, not enough to spin out. Making an awful noise, like stripped gears and won't drain

There are three reasons for such awful noise during spinning. Either the drum or the bearing turning the drum. Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.

Thanks

Have a hotpoint ultima . very noisy

I'd check very carefully to see whether the washer is level. You can get a level pretty inexpensively at a hardware store if you don't have one or can't find one to borrow. A fraction of an inch can make a big difference.

If that seems OK, if it is a top-loading machine, use an appropriate size level to see if the drum is level within the washer when it is sitting still. Also, on top loaders, you can usually push the drum manually about half an inch or so in any direction. When you do this does it feel as if it is binding in a particular direction? If so, maybe you can take it apart enough to figure out why.

Fast spin vibration

Is the bearing for the inner drum loose or the drum turning with a wobble (empty)? If that checks ok, then possibly one or more of the outer drum dampers is broken, worn out, or out-of-place. Shake the inner drum in various directions--there should be damped motion in any direction.
