Have you checked the drivers for the usb adapter. plug it in and go to my devises and up date driver see if that fixed it. vista software may have a problem as they are not updating there software files. but win7 is fine has same filing as xp.
On the MP3 player, go to settings > system, put the USB mode to MSC, then reconnect to the computer, computer will read, the device is currently on MTP and your computer doesnt have driver so that is why its not recognizing.
win xp is a far outdated os and may not be compatible with the scanner
click on scanner properties and then the compatibility tab and see that the small square is ticked and then high light win xp as the OS
If there is no win xp , it will not work
if all is there then get the honeywell web site open and down load the driver for that scanner
some software only works with XP go to megellan web sit you may need to buy the update for vista and windows 7 on CD. and if you plug the GPS into a PC that doesn't have XP it could crash or not work at all
If it is Win XP with SP1 ( check this - tight click My Computer, click Properties and check if it is Service Pack 1), then you need the latest SP from microsoft (that is SP3).
WinXP not recognizing USB drives, the SP is the most common cause I have seen. Update to SP3 and it should solve your problem.
Unfortunally the Asus motherboard does not list drivers for windows Vista. (No support for Vista). http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P4XP-X&SLanguage=en-us
You are left with Vista update software from microsoft. On the P4XP-X board open you're manual to page 1-4.
Number 24 supports USB 2.0 & number 25 supports USB 1.1.
Windows update service installs USB driver software for all motherboards. You may need to go back to Windows XP.
