Check the voltage to the small wires, if you do not have 12 volts to those the solenoid will not engage. Common reasons 12 volts will not go to the solenoid is a bad seat switch, brake switch or other safety interlock. If the solenoid DOES have 12 volts to the two small wires make sure the ends are nice and tightly connected to the solenoid, if all above are ok then replace the solenoid.

Does a bad battery cause my tractor to not turn over?

Yes. Verify it is the battery by jumping mower off with car battery. If turns over, replace battery. If cannot turnover by jumping, try bypassing start solenoid by tapping positive cable to battery post on starter. Starter should turn. If starter doesn't turn, have starter tested.

Have a green light to start push button nothing this is a 1999 bigred atv

THE FIRST THING TO CHECK IS THE STARTER SYLINOID SOMETIMES JUST TAPING IT WILL DO THE TRICK ,,,THE WAY TO CHECK FOR SURE IS TO TAKE A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER AND CROSS IT FROM THE TWO WIRES CONECTED TO THE SYLINOID THIS WILL TELL YOU THAT ITS BAD,,,SIMPLE TRY IT WONT HARM A THING,,,,THEN YOU WILL KNOW ITS NOT THE STARTER,,MAY BE JUST A LOOS WIRE ON THE SYLINOID,,,, OH BY THE WAY ITS UNDER THE SEET..HOPE THIS HELPS.

Try using jumper cables and jumping from the positive battery post to the starter lug where the main cable hooks to the starter. If you don't have jumper cables find the solenoid on the inside of the right side panel. Pull the rubber caps off and jump that with an old screw driver if the engine turns and starts on either occasion it is the solenoid. Part # 192507 sells for about $15.00 at searspartsdirect.com
