Step 1 Stop the engine if it is running, and disconnect the spark plug wire. Remove the spark plug with a spark plug tool, and check the condition of the spark plug. Replace it if it is damaged or worn. If it is still in good condition, check the gap with the gapping tool and reinstall it. Step 2 Drain the fuel and the oil, and turn the mower onto its side so the air filter is up. Step 3 Place a block of wood by the bottom end of the mower blade, and hold it there with your foot. Loosen the mower blade bolts with a socket and a ratcheting wrench or a box/open-ended wrench. Step 4 Remove the blade from the drive shaft with a gloved hand or with a cloth rag. The blade may still have raw or sharp edges, so handle the worn blade carefully. Step 5 Mount the new blade where the old blade was mounted and in the same manner. Make sure the curved ends of the blade point towards the mower housing. Hand thread the bolts at first, and tighten the bolts with a wrench after placing the block of wood on the other ther side of the blade. Use a torque wrench to finish tightening the bolts to 15- to 27-foot lbs.

First make sure you have the tools, metric that is. The deck must be removed and turned over. To do this you must put the deck in the lowest position. Using a 15mm socket pull the belt tension spring pulley forward to detach from clutch. Next remove retaining pins located at the five deck brackets. This will allow the arms to slide off and the deck can be dragged out from under the mower. Turn deck over. Use a 18 inch 2x4 to block blades while removing the two 15mm bolts. The bolt heads will need to be cleaned so the socket can seat on bolt head. I use my torque wrench to get more leverage and i can use it to reset blade bolts to 64 ft lbs. While blades are of it is a god time to thoroughly clean underside of deck.

There is a spring attached to a tensioner that probably came unhooked while changing the belt. Higher deck settings push the deck backwards enough to spin the blades, the lower setting need the spring tensioner to take up the slack in the belt.
