D-link DSL 2730u modem dead after wrong firmware update through wireless

Attempt to do the firmware update, again--connecting always to ethernet for firmware updates. Unfortunately, your modem may be "bricked" (unusable)--in other words, it may be time to recycle it and buy a new one.

The firmware may proved damaged--given that the incorrect firmware successfully installed (hopefully, that was prevented by the device itself--it may have output an error message or code)--or, it was installed incompletely, or the update proved corrupted.

I have a modem cable connection with time Warner cable but router isn't connecting to modem what can I do

I install Linksys routers all the time. Usually the first thing I do, is update the routers firmware. Many times I find that if the Linksys router doesn't automatically get a connection from DHCP, updating the firmware usually solves it.

To update the firmware:
Connect just to the cable box so you have an active internet connection.
1. Go to:
2. Select your router version (can be found on the sticker near the model number) and download the latest firmware to a spot you will remember.
3. Now connect the router to your cable modem and computer.
4. Access your routers configuration page (If you don't know the address try: or
5. Log-in - if you haven't changed the username/password the default should be a blank username with the password "admin".
6. Click "Administration"
7. Click "Firmware Upgrade"
8. Click "Browse" and choose the firmware file you downloaded in step 2.
10. Click Upgrade. Be patient and let it do its thing.

See if you connect after that. If not, let me know and I will walk you through the next steps.

My Linksys WTR 120N evry time is disconnecting from Modem

There are many reasons why router would disconnect from the modem.

First connect only modem to the computer and check if your internet disconnects. If it does then contact your ISP..if it doesn't then follow the following steps..

1)Disconnect the power for both modem and router for one minute and re-connect the power and check if it worked.
2)If not..You might need to update the firmware on the router. Log into the manufacturer's web site and download the latest version of the firmware for your model and update it.
3)Even if that doesn't work..You might need to reset and re-configure your router. Press the reset button for 10 mins and disconnect the power for both modem and router for 1 minute and then re-connect the power and run the configuration disk for the router(PS: you require the disk of the router and ISP settings.)

Hope this helped.

Hi ,

I got your issue, Since your router keeps dropping the connection , the best fix is to update the firmware on the router. Here is the link,

You have 4 different firmware version, select the appropriate version for Eg: If your version number of the router is ver:3000 then download v 3xxx and update the firmware on the router , that it will fix your issue.

I am on Cox cable. I lost my connection to the internet several times this evening. Cox checked out my modem and said the problem was in the router. When I connect modem to computer, internet pops up...

Cox people are really correct that everything is working from them and from there modem and doing a firmware update is really a good thing to do to correct your problem. For that firmware update you just need to download it from your routers manufacturer like Linksys , Belkin , Dlink or Netgear just go to there web site and search the model of your router so you can download the latest firmware for it.

Download the latest firmware from:
Upon searching, you will three versions of this model available. As you didn't specify the version, you may select the appropriate.
Download and save it your desktop
Open router interface using:
Under utilities, click on Firmware Update
Browse, Locate the file(.bin) from your desktop, click on update
Click on Restore Factory Defaults under Utilities
Try to re-configure the router and forward ports that you want.
If this doesn't work, Enable DMZ for the private IP address you want.
That should certainly work.
It could also be your modem that may be blocking> Check this too
Only if you have NAT enabled modem, try to use this router as an access point
This would surely work

After update the firmware my belkin G stop working.

You may possibly be able to restore your router to factory default settings, by pressing the reset button on the back of the router.

You normally need to press for at least 10 seconds to get back to factory defaults (check your manual).

Sorry, there is no guarantee this will work, but it is worth a try. If it does, you will lose all customised settings (eg password, network key). :(
