Hi, what you need is a refrigerant.Your evaporator is turning into block of ice, that's why there is a decreasing air flow. The icing happens because the refrigerant is instantly boiling off but there isn't enough in the system to do the job.

Now, that been said, you have to understand one thing. Refrigerant doesn't go bad, if you're short, IT IS LEAKING!!!!! Until you tell the technician to fix the leak, he will continue to make money off you. Keep your filters clean, ill continue to make money on you season after season. Keep your filters clean, have him check the squirrel cage (indoor fan) to see if the vanes are clogged with dust and not moving the air and clean the evaporator fins with a rinse-less cleaner.

Take care

I have noticed my heat pump is freezing up on the outside unit, we have had freezing rain and snow the last 2 days but I have never noticed ice accumulation on the outside of the unit, it also seems like...

In freezing weather the heat pump efficiency drops. The freezing is normal. The equipment has a board and sensor to defrost your heat pump. Now this system can fail but freezing rain and snow get pulled into the unit get pulled into the unit coil and freeze blocking airflow. You can defrost the unit by turning it to cooling. This is what the defrost board does automatically.

Water pipe feeding this froze, pipe was repaired, unit filled with water, no leaks won't agitate something smells hot or burnt, vibration low noise comes from unit, won't pump wter from tub

remove the water pump. it may be broken by water freezing iside. also make sure you dont use the washer if ambient temp in room is below freezing. freezing will damage water valves, pumps and freeze grease inside the gearcase.

Coleman Heat Pump Freezes Up

This sounds like an airflow problem. You said you change the filters every 3 weeks or so. Check the filters and the indoor coil to make sure they are clean. Also look at the indoor fan and make sure it is running and running at speed. A fan that isn't running at the rated speed will cause the coil to freeze. A weak capacitor can make the fan run slow. Also make sure the fan blade/wheel is clean. A low refrigerant charge will also cause the unit to freeze. It doesn't matter what you have the thermostat set on because the temperature of the refrigerant is determined by the pressure of the refrigerant and the airflow across the coils. If it freezes up again you can put it in heat mode to melt the ice.

Unit freezing up

It will not hurt the unit if you let it thaw out and then run it again. However, if you keep doing this on a regular basis, you can burn out your compressor. What are the conditions that the unit is being run under that is causing it to freeze up? Make sure that you run the unit on high cool on warm days so that it will not freeze.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Freezing up, home ac unit no air flow after running a while

A low freon level in the unit can cause them to freeze up. Are the fins behind the filter clean?

Whirlpool runs, but freezer not freezing and frig not freezing

If the compressor is running but the unit is not cooling you may have lost the refrigerant.  See if the condenser coils at the back or bottom are hot.  If they are only warm then the refrigerant is low and can be recharged.  Service tech should check for leak in coolant system.

Coil freezes up

Usually when the indoor coil freezes up you either have dirty filters or coil but if you had this unit replaced last year your coil and filters are probably OK so you probably have a leak in the unit and are low on refrigerant.

Inside unit freezing

There are varius items that make the unit inside (air handler) freezes up .If the fan motor in the air handler doesn't work it'llice up.If the filter is dirty it'llfreezes up. If the coil in the air handler is dirty it will freezes up.And if the unit is low in refrigerant(freon) it'll ice up.If is low in gas means there's a leak and before recharged it needs to be fixed.
