Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Miele G681 dish washer with an intake/drain light problem. I've read all posts about similar problems I could find both on this forum and others but I'm afraid I still can't figure my problem out. The intake/drain light starts blinking mid way into the dishwashing process. The dish washer fills up, rinses, drains, water is hot, everything seems to function just fine. Some time after the tablet drops from its door mounted container, and the time estimate reaches 46 minutes remaining out of around 139 minutes at the beginning, time stands still and does not change from 46 minutes. A good 10 minutes after that, the intake/drain light would start blinking. One cycle out of 5 or so would finish flawlessly, though a flawless cycle is becoming more rare it seems. Can anyone suggest what I can look at? I couldn't find a service manual for any model of Miele dishwasher at all, I checked all (I think) the usual suspects as discussed throughout the different posts I found. If anyone has any hints I'd definitely love to hear them, service manual for any model might help me as I assume they are all very similar machines. Thank you!

Well as I cant be specific as ive never heard of this model even, but I know washers in general pretty well , I can say if you have a digital display that tells cycle time (again un usual) and it stops timing , this seems a pretty sure thing you have an electronics problem , most likely in the circuit boards themselves , but if your not sure of what does what , it might be a little less expensive to enlist someone that does b4 just shotgun replacing boards because they can get expensive !!

SOURCE: dishwasher stops after 10 minutes inlet/drain light flashing

I had the same problem on a 5 year old model. It was the main pump leaking from a perished seal causing the water protection microswitch to trip. This gives the symptoms you describe exactly. Parts cost from Miele was about £60 for a new seal. Fairly easy to fit.

Hi. The above machine stops mid cycle and drain/fill light is on, also error code F3E, have cleaned both hot and cold water inlet filters, also checked drain pump and drain line, all ok. Machine drains with no issues and fills with hot water, runs for a while then shuts down.
Any ideas?

Hi

The first thing that should be checked is if its draining properly as it could be that the drain hose is clogged and needs to be cleaned. The drain pump also should not be clogged. Also the stopcock should be opened fully and the water inlet valve should be checked for any clogs. Also the metal filter, impeller cover and the air gap unit should be checked. After checking this you can reset the error as follows: turn the rotary selector switch to "Stop/End" or press the "Start/Stop" switch for approx. 5 secs. Then switch the appliance off and then back on again. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Drain/intake light is on

A re-post from John. I am reposting because I read this post this afternoon and it fixed my Miele incognito Dishwasher.
Hi All,

Thx for all the tips. Combining your thoughts provided a solution for me.

I had the same problem (with a ***** of thanksgiving dishes to do). Turn on,
tries to drain, then that RED blinking "INTAKE/DRAIN" light, like you described.

Spent hours, checking/clearing the (grey) drain hose (The other white hose is the water input to the dishwasher). Also took out metal filter, impeller cover, poked a coat hanger in both ways to/from the drain hose connection. All seemed clear. But still the same.

But when I unhooked the grey drain hose from the air gap unit (that part going to the 4th hole in the sink surface), the dishwasher worked fine. So the air gap unit seemed plugged. The black hose from the garbage disposal to the air gap unit is free flowing (blew through it - yuch!). But the drain connection through the air gap unit was NOT as free flowing.

Replaced it with a new air gap unit ($5.00 at Home depot).
All works fine now. I feel I got lucky.

Well this worked for me. Sorry for all of you who spent big bucks with no solution on those service guys that tried but did not help. I hope this helps some of you.

John

Intake/drain light is flashing

When this happens with my dishwasher it usually means that the drain is clogged with food/debris.  To fix 1) remove bottom dish rack from machine 2) using a small cup, scoop out as much water as possible 3) remove inlet drain cover and unsnap the plastic insert and remove 4) rinse the plastic part and reinstall 5) start machine 6) if light still flashes, repeat steps 3 4 and 5 and restart

Intake Drain Light

My Miele Incognito dishwasher kept getting an error with intake/drain light. The light flashed 5 times. Phoned Miele Technical Support to investigate the problem. The problem is that a seal in the bottom of the dishwasher has failed and there was water in the motor pan. Currently, $175 service charge for the technician to come look at it.

I don't want to spend $175+ to have them replace a 75 cent rubber gasket that I could replace on my own.

Both the intake and drain lights are flashing

There are several simple solutions, one is reading the instruction manual. Check Intake: is any water entering? is it slow? This machine filters debris from the supply water so check the water intake filter. It is inside the end of the intake hose end against the home. Rinse it clean.
Drain: The same fault appears if the drain is clogged. Check if the lint trap is perfectly clean. Check the impeller (a set of fan blades) behind it spins freely. If buttons or coins get in there they can break off the fan blades and you can't drain water. Check the end of the drain hose if it drains. put it into a bucket or tub basin to observe how strong it pumps. Call Miele if these tips don't work. Be at the machine with Model and Serial number ready.
