I have a Toro 22 in Recycler Lawn Mower electric start problem

I have a Toro 22 in Recycler Lawn Mower model number 20067. It is also an electric start. My problem that has been going on since I had it is that the wires that slide into the receptacle keep falling out. Even with wires attached the electric start will not do anything. I had this in the dealer for this problem at least three times and when i get it back it seems to be okay. But later it fails again. Once in a while after I play arouind with it, it seems to be okay again. I do not know what is making it okay though. Do you know of anything? thanks.

SOURCE: Toro Lawn Mower Won't Start

this is a very common problem with these toro mowers. the needle valve in the bowl of the carb. is plugged up with dirt or varnish from the fuel. just under the primer bulb there is the carb bowl. it has a nut under it that holds it on remove the bowl and make sure fuel flows constantly while the bowl is off. push up on the float to stop the gas flow. this could be messy and dangerous. careful with the gas. its flammable. best solution is to remove the carb and soak it overnight in a parts cleaner like gunk. caution small parts inside. this happins every year on mine no matter what i do. seems like the orifice is so small it clogs easily. good luck

SOURCE: toro self propelled 22 inch recycler lawn mower start pull cord is "stuck"

Casey,

My son just bought a new Toro self propelled 22" recycler and has had problems on two different occasions. The mower just bogs down to a stop and when he tried to pull the starter cord, it was very VERY difficult to pull. At first I thought the engine had seized up for some reason (no oil?), but we found the problem.

First, disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug (to avoid the engine starting); tip the mower on its side and check very carefully the pulley and transmission belt. In his case, a piece of wood had gotten stuck between the belt and the pulley. Removing it fixed the problem (now he mows a little higher so as not to get so close to any debris). (We did have one further problem after that - the engine would not start - not even fire. After pulling and pulling, checking for gas, and checking that the air filter was cleean, we decided to check if the cylinder was flooded - we removed the spark plug, wiped and dried if off, and replaced it. It started right away.)

This belt 'n pulley arrangement isn't the best idea, if you ask me.

Good luck.

SOURCE: We have a brand new toro 22 in Recycler lawn mower

Check the oil ... does it have oil in it?

Disconnect the spark plug, tip the mower up, can you move the blade? If the blade will not move, the motor may be seized.

No oil = ruined motor ...

If the blade will move freely, there is a recoil starter problem.

Testimonial: "Great! You were right on target. All the oil was gone and the engine seized, they got it started for us but it EXPLODED on us the next time we used it. Brand new mower and we DID put oil in it. Go figure."

SOURCE: i can't pull the pull string on my lawnmower

have you tipped mower over at any stage? oil will be in a/c and cyl/head ...any time you tip mower pull high tension lead off s/plug and tip mower so that spark plug points to the sky...you will need to remove spark plug (suspect it will be full of oil) replace air cleaner....and retop up with correct oil...

How to fix stuck pull cord of a 22 inch Toro Recycler lawn mower

Is the engine seized?. Try turning the blade and if it won't turn then you have a seized engine. If that is ok your recoil has a stuck part possibly something has broken off inside. If it's an older model try shooting WD40 inside the recoil as it could be rusty.

The above link should open the page with the manual. Check the 40 amp fuse in the battery compartment. Make sure it is not blown.

How do I open the case around the pull cord on a Torro 22" recycler lawn mower?

It's been a while since I pulled one of those engines apart - the LV195 engines came in 2 versions. One has a detachable recoil starter that is held on by 2 screws, the other is an integral part of the cowling. Either way, the repair procedure is the same - remove the starter, or entire cowling as appropriate (may need to remove some plastic and the tank first), remove label on top, SUPPORT THE ASSEMBLY ON A DEEP WELL SOCKET or similar and drift out the central roll-pin into the centre of the socket drive the pin from outside to inside. If you don't support it, it WILL bend and make it useless. Make a note of the order of the washers and springs etc, then fit a repair kit.

I have a Toro 22 in Recycler Lawn Mower Model No. 20331 I can't pull the starter cable, it seems locked. My boys were mowing the lawn earlier, some very high grass, and the mower stopped

Hi. It's not locked. The piston has siezed up maybe for lack of oil or sitting too long. It is time to retire it. If your son or daughter or grand kids has some mechanical in them. They can tare it apart and fix it. Good luck.
