SOURCE: Lines on copy/scan/fax

You have something on your "scanner glass", the narrow piece of glass that the scanner "looks" through during adf use. Get some window cleaner or rubbing alcohol and clean it with a damp cloth. Often, it's correction fluid (Liquid Paper). A little dot is all it takes because the paper is traveling across the dot, effectively drawing a line down the length of the page.

SOURCE: When faxing does paper face uup or down

You load the originals print side uo on the document feeder tray or print side down on the glass.
To send a single page fax you can either load the original on document feeder tray or on the glass; to send a multi-page fax you must use the document feeder tray.

The position of the paper is the same either you copy, fax or scan.
All this is clearly explained in the user's manual, that you should read and you can download from HP support pages for you printer:

Face up or down on hp 640 faxes

Load the documents face down in the document feeder. (Print side towards the fax machine.)

HP offers a lot of support for their products. The User Manual for the HP 640 is available here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01094202.pdf .

I hope this helps.

First step is to connect the phone line to Line 1 Ext at the back of the printer port.
Place the document face down on the Scanner Bed Or place the document face up on the Top feeder if you want to use it.
Use the right arrow key and choose Fax Black and press OK
Dial the # you want to send Fax to and Press OK.

The fax should be sent.

Fax documents face up or face down

Fax documents should be placed as you would any document to be copied or scanned. Face down for manually placed documents. If you have an Automatic Document Feeder, the pages go face up.

I hope this helps.
