1 Answer

I have emachines Desktop ET1161-07. Started

I have emachines Desktop ET1161-07. Started getting a "popup" for lack of better word showing a yellow speaker, with volume and a 0 showing. Its identical of the popup showing "no signal." It doesn't look to be connected to Windows Vista (which I'm using) but a cpu message as logging off windows, its still there. It started about once a day for a minute or so; now its constant poping up and then disappearing. Am no pro as you can see. Any help most appreciated.

Morning dj: Yes, I rechecked using a CD as well as Window sounds seem to be okay. This pop just started more often this AM -- so double checked to make sure sound or speakers were okay. To be honest, I do not use the speakers that often, as I usually do family history and just search genealogy websites -- thus no need for speakers or sound. As a matter of fact, its popped up again as doing this message.

Alright. The sound device program may be corrupted and may need reinstallation. Reinstalling the sound device using the cd may get rid of the speaker notification.

dj: Thanks. However, being no pro, question. I have no disks with this system. When I purchased last March, all came packaged. No installation disks whatsoever. Thus, my question, is there a way to check or reinstall from "maintenance -- backup and restore." Any suggestions more than appreciated.

Once I turn the computer on it only shows a blank screen. I am able to see the mouse arrow move but I am unable to get to my desktop or anything else. What do I do?

If you can see the mouse arrow, the display adapter is working. Try right clicking on the desktop. If you get a popup display, select the VIEW option, and another popup should appear next to it. Look at the bottom of the list and ensure that the "show desktop icons" selection is checked. If not, click on it and see if the icons return.

I loaded window xp in my emachinest2824 coputbut the other device

If you have various devices showing yellow exclamtion marks, then you may need to update the drivers for them, or the drivers for the devices are not installed.

Write down the make and model numbers of the devices then do a google search for the relelvant drivers to download. If you have trouble finding the drivers, let me know and I will see what I can do

I hope this helps

Monitor doesn't work

Sounds like a bad video adapter. I'm assuming your emachines has an integrated video adapter. Put in a video card (with the power plug pulled out! Touch the bare metal frame of the computer with your hand before inserting the video card into the agp or pci slot Don't touch the motherboard). If you get video, you may or may not need to install drivers after that. XP has a lot of video drivers, but lacks quite a few of them, too.
