check the status light pattern maybe the printer has a problem. but if there is no error on the printer itself then you have to check for the connection between the machine and PC. re-install the correct printer driver.

Does it say it is 'idle' on the computer or on the Printer itself?
If the message is on the computer: 1. Top left of screen, click the Apple icon, then click System Preferences. 2. Go to 'Print and Fax'. 3. You should see your printer listed. Highlight your printer by clicking on it once, then click the 'Minus' button to delete the printer. 4. Click the 'Plus' button and go through the process again of reinstalling your printer.
It seems this has fixed other people with the same problem and printer as you, I hope this works for you.

Setting the Sleep Time reduces power consumption by turning off the fuser inside the MFC while it is idle. You can choose how long the MFC is idle (from 00 to 99 minutes) before it goes into sleep mode. The timer is automatically reset when the MFC receives a Fax or PC data or makes a copy. The factory setting is 05 minutes.
To turn Sleep Mode off press Menu/Set, 1, 6, 2. Then use the dial pad to enter the length of time the MFC is idle before it goes into sleep mode, in this case 00 so it wouldn't go to Sleep mode at all. Press Stop/Exit.

My printer is in idle mode and will not print. How do I fix or change idle mode so it could print?

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges
