Question about Canonical Ltd. Ubuntu

I can't get my microphone to work. It's a logitech headphone/mic set that plugs into the line in/out jacks. My computer is an IBM thinkpad R60E laptop (type 0657-CTO).

Have you made sure that the microphone is not muted and is selected as the recording source? Also you might need to enable the mic boost as well.

If it is not working normally these are the things to check. If you still have trouble then most likely you are having a driver issue.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

It is possible that the update may not be compatible with the version of Ubuntu that you have installed on your computer.

Let me know the update you found and the version of Ubuntu you have installed and I can do some digging for you.

If your thinkpad has a built in (onboard) mic you may need to disable it. Go to the startup settings and disable any onboard mic. You can always enable it if that's not the problem.

Bought turtle beach z11 headset, cant get mic to work

The Z11 has a four-pole input/output plug to connect the mic and the earphone. The earphone needs to be connected to the earphone jack and the mic needs to be connected to the mic input jack on the back of the computer. In other words, you should have to 3.5 mm plugs. Plugging both into the same jack will disconnect one or the other. Check your adapter, It should have two separate 3.5mm plugs. If it does, be sure they are connected to the right jacks on the computer. The headphone jack will have a headphone symbol; the mic jack will have a microphone symbol. Go to System Preferences, Sound. Select the line in preference for input and the line out preference for headphones. Just may work.

External microphone thinkpad t41

Control Panel, Sounds, look at Recording devices (depends on the OS you are using, you didn't mention, Vista, XP, 7,8?), Mic. Your Headphones jack, when in use, will cause the internal sound to disable, depending on OS the mic setup is a bit different but you should find it in sounds, recording devices.

I have 2 plugs on my Logitech ClearChat Stereo Headset Headset I have a table top computer where do I pug them

The headphone plug goes into the green jack on the computer. The mic plug goes into the red jack on the computer. The headphone plug with have three segments on the jack, the mic plug will have two, and they'll both be marked. If you're computer doesn't have color jacks, the mic will go into the one with a picture of a mic, the headphones will go into the one with a picture of a headphone or speaker.

Make sure you have selected the audio input when it is plugged in by opening System Preferences -> Sound -> Input -> Highlight "Line In" and see if the volume is set high enough and test again. Make sure you have plugged it into the right port of the computer.

Does an IBM Thinkpad have an incorporated microphone? if not, can it be attached? what type?

Look at the hardware specifications (I found it here, http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-54265).

You need to plug an external microphone with a mini-phono jack into the red hole on the right side of your laptop. Most headphones with a boom mic will have the right plugs. Or you can go for a USB based headphone/microphone option.

Headphones w/ built-in microphone. Can both work with one jack?

the simple answer is No. The long answer is your laptop/computers headphone output and mic input are completely separate on the sound card. Meaning there are no tie to the audio in on the heaphone lines, and vise versa on the mic/line in. Sorry to disappoint.

Speakers work with ipod not with laptop

First thing, you have plugged in to the wrong point, plug in the speaker to the headphone slot(mostly light green in color).

MIC point is specifically for MIC not speakers.

The point which works for your headphones would work perfectly for speakers.
