Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System

Flapper door for ice dispenser will not close. Torsion spring is not working. How do you remove the cover for the ice and water dispenser?

After removing the ice chute door, I discovered the real problem. The door is attached to the dispenser housing with a nail like pin. The left side is a hole and the right side is a u-shaped slot. Slide the pin into the hole on the left and drop it into the slot on the right. Unfortunately, the front of the u-shaped slot has sheared off and the dispenser housing is non-servicable part, ie, not available from Whirlpool. The dispenser housing was either poorly designed or poorly manufactured but Whirlpool admits to neither. But because of a 1/2 inch piece of broken plastic, I have to replace the whole door at a cost of $1040 (special order only). I'll probably live without an ice dispenser (the ice machine still works), unitl I'm ready to replace my 3 year old refridgerator with one NOT made by Whirlpool.

The fountain opening has a false trimring around it that is press-fit into place.
Starting at one corner - gently pry off the trimring. Behind it are a few screws, and the fountain assemble slides out.

VISIT THIS LINK and supply your exact model number - and they will have expanded parts diagrams you can see how it comes apart, and order the required parts.

I have a jenn-air jcd2389ges. The hole in the door where the ice comes down into your cup is broken. i believe the foam piece is busted

Here is a kit of the most likely parts that you are talking about=> 12001991 Ice Dispenser Solenoid and Door Kit Just disconnect the power and turn water off before beginning to ddisassemble the fispenser components seen here=> JCD2389GES Dispenser Components
1. Unplug the refrigerator power cord.
2. Remove the overflow grille from the housing.
3. Unsnap front cover at the bottom of the housing.
(using a flat blade screwdriver, and tape or pad, twist the screw driver, or pry out the bottom trim using the molded slots in the bottom of the trim panel).
4. Disconnect the front cover switch harness connector and set the cover aside.
5. Disconnect the power wire harness connector (BL/BK and W wires)
6. Disconnect the flapper door heater wire harness connector (if one is present).
7. Release the dispenser microswitch retainers and slide the switches off of their locator pins. Carefully handle the switches so they do not come apart.
8. Disconnect the wires from the terminals of the lamp holder.
9. Remove the two 1/4. hex head screws from the control bracket and remove the control bracket.
10. Remove the 1/4. hex head screw to remove the water fitting (fill spout) from the water dispenser lever.
11. Unsnap the ice guide and remove it from the ice dispenser lever.
12. Remove the air pot by sliding the rear of the air pot out of the slot molded to the dispenser housing and slip the linkage out of the flapper door mechanism assembly.
13. Unsnap the flapper door and remove it from the ice dispenser lever. While you remove the flapper door, carefully guide the flapper door heater wire and connector over the door mechanism assembly.
14. Remove the 1/4. hex head screw securing the dispenser levers pivot retainer to the dispenser housing and remove the retainer.
15. Remove the water dispenser lever.
16. Remove the ice dispenser lever by maneuvering it around the door mechanism assembly.
17. Pull the pin from the door mechanism assembly and remove the spring and mechanism assembly.
18. Reassemble in reverse order.

Ice will not dispence thru door.

Without knowing the brand and model # I can offer the most common solution.

On most "pass the ice through the door" models there is a flapper door where the ice dispenses. The spring which holds this door closed when you are not dispensing ice becomes weak allowing the flap to stay open jsut a bit. This open space will create an ice dam in teh dispenser thus not allowing the ice to dispense. The repair is generally made by replacing the flap assembly.

All the best.

Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.

I need to replace the torsion spring on the ice dispenser door. I have a new spring but can't figure out how to take the front cover housing off in order to get to the spring. Thanks, Jeff

there should be two small holes on either side of the face plate,
push a small nail in those the face plate will pull off
once you have the face plate of, it should be fairly obvious how to remove the padles and springs
hope this helps

Icemaker makes Ice But doesn't dispense it.

Had same problem. Looked everywhere and found no solution i'm a not a repairman...they probably do not want to post so they can make 150 for a repair visit. At least try this first it may save you $$. Remove ice bucket from freezer. Remove 2 screws @ auger...remove cover and auger ....remove spring and large hex shaped shaft. heat the large shaft end with a torch and put it back in hot side toward motor until the motor end is not frozen. No torch you can use hot water...but that may freeze again.

This was happing because my flap to the ice was not closing all the way .

Manual for parts can be found here it shows ice maker parts on page 7.

Good Luck Kono

Ice Dispenser "Flapper" is loose--How does it reattach?

the plastic arms that move the flapper door open and closed are broken. I had this happen to me some months back. You will need to buy a repair kit from your local dealer. Explain what is broken and they can look up their part/kit number. You can't buy just the plastic door. Mine cost about $30 but was worth the price of getting my ice maker dispenser operating again. Very minor mechanics required to open this portion of the mechanism. Mostly some removal of screws and a spring or two. Good luck.

Ge gss25jemc ice in door keeps freezzing up

Flapper door diagram is here, you can see how the spring, etc. work to hold the door closed. http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/GE/00113173i04.gif As for the crushed ice, (item 384) on the next diagram shows the little lever that lifts the side rod on the bin (item 329) to decide if cubes or crushed comes out. The solenoid (item 383) can get frozen up and not move. Take a look where screw (item 371) is, that little square window is where the device that lifts the rod is. Take a hair dryer and heat that area REAL good to melt the frozen solenoid mechanism. Test it every now and then by holding the door light switch off and pressing the cubed selection & lever. You should hear a very loud "clank" as the solenoid pull in to lift the rod on the bin.
