thank you i will try that but i think it might be something else as sometimes it runs great then 1/2 way through it overfills during a filling cycle then the kids have to get out with the mop and towels and do a bit of cleaning

You need to clean the sump remove all the filters etc and clean them this is a common fault and may not be a quick fix.

We have a wega w500 dishwasher which is overfilling with water. how does a person solve this?

Hi, it sounds like a sensor switch that tells the inlet water valve no more water its full enough, is not working. Best to have it looked at.

Dishwasher problem solving

I always thought the float was the only means of measuring the water. A bend door from having too much weight on it and or bad seals create the door leaks. Sometimes no matter how you try to bend a door back to the way it was when manufactured will never be the same. Maybe you can bend the sheet metal on the micro-switch to adjust the water level.

My husband installed our dishwasher a Westinghouse 905 and it fills with water but then floods our kitchen!! If we turn it off it drains out properly so we are not sure what to do next. Any help would be...

Hello!
"floods the kitchen"... do you mean it overfills, or that it fills, the water valve shuts off, and then while running it leaks out?
Perhaps the water level control float that is on the inside of the machine is stuck or there is packing material inside it for shipping???
The float valve would be on the bottom of the tub and probably looks about the size of a hockey puck and has to move freely up and down to detect the level of water. If the water level were to get too high, the valve will float up and release a micro switch that it controls with a little shaft that runs down through a small opening in the bottom of the tub.
Check to see that it moves freely up and down... you likely will be able to hear a bit of a "click" of a micro switch.
If the float was stuck, it probably is safe to try to run the dishwasher again... but stand by just in case !!!!
Hope this was the problem and now it works !!!

No water coming when turned on

This sounds like a stuck float.

Inside the dishwasher, usually on the left side and right by the front, there's a water level sensor, about the size of a bottle of advil.
When the dishwasher is full, this floats up and shuts off the water to keep it from overfilling and flooding your kitchen.

If it gets stuck in this raised position, then the dishwasher thinks it's always full and the water won't turn on.

Check to see if something has become stuck underneath, or if the float is hung up on something.

Water does not fill .

chances are, your water switch is stuck..
its the thing inside the dishwashe that kinda looks like a plastic mushroom.. (its a float)
sometimes they get corroded with excess detergent.. wiggle that up and down some to free up the float and it just might fix your problem.

My westinghouse 905 dishwasher starts ok but stops somewhere in the cycle, not having washed the dishes properly.

Hi. I have a Westinghouse 905. At first all ok then we found that it cuts out and short cicuits the whole house. Trips the electricity switch. Restart gets to about half way through then same thing happens. Any help please?

To be honest with you, I've never personally seen the inside of a Viking dishwasher. But I've also never ever seen a dishwasher without a float switch.

In every dishwasher I've seen, there is a small donut or mushroom shaped thing under the lower rack that will float when the water level gets high enough. This switch prevents overfilling the dishwasher and flooding your kitchen.

If your machine doesn't have one, I'm sorry to have misled you.

Won't drain

The drian could be plugged or the pump could have an obstruction. Did you just install a garbage disposer? If you did you may need to knock out the plug in the disposer. Hope this helps
