Question about Microwave Ovens
There's a piece of shiny cardboard covering a hole inside my Oster OGF41101 microwave...I didn't know what it's for but when trying to remove it it ripped...what's this for and do I need it?

No, that is the "waveguide cover".
It provides very important protection for the magnetron.
And always keep it clean according to your manual's instructions.

include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on
the unit, as well your symptoms "Microwave turns on for 5 seconds, then shuts off".
Please also not whether the display stays on or shuts off.
The object you're describing is the waveguide cover. It needs to stay clean and secure. If it's damaged, it will need to be replaced.
It provides critical protection for the magnetron.
