Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner
My duotherm rooftop RV AC unit model# 59516.531 is cooling very well it will run for 30 mins to an hour then trip the breaker, i have cleaned the coils already.Does anyone have any ideas?
Please use a heavy duty cord, and be sure all other appliances in rv turned off, like water htr.; refrigerator; the other a/c; etc. Then turn the a/c on again; check to find out if it starts and operates ok. If you do not have a cord, start the generator, then ac and check out the operation of the air conditioning unit. If it still fails to start and run correctly, you will need to do further test the compressor.
I would say that your compressor is the source of the tripping out problem. It sounds as if it is stuck internally, not being able to start. When a compressor is stuck, it pulls more than three times the amount of normal starting current, which is certainly more than enough to trip the breaker.
You can also Check electrical connections and check input voltage--it it's low--IE 108 volts AC it will trip the breaker--and the breaker might be getting weak too--after several trips---the internal heater inside the breaker weakens the breaker to the point--of complete failure to remain "reset" you can also try to oil the fan motor bearings and see if it makes a difference.
