Keeps asking for blank dvd

Trying to burn DVD with Roxio 5....keeps asking for blank DVD and yes, there is a blank one in the drive. I have tried several DVD's and all are rejected asking AGAIN for blank disc. What the heck???? Using Vista on HP computer....the burner does work as I just burned one from Windows Movie Maker. Seems to be something with Roxio.

Check roxio configuration the check if it is using the right drive.
sometimes the burner programs try to burn discs in virtual drives.

    I am having the same problems. I just copied one DVD witth no problem. Now, I'm trying to copy another, and after I copy the DVD, and I insert a blank DVD-R, Roxio keeps spitting it out with a message to "insert a blank rewritable disc. It worked perfectly a few minutes ago. This is maddening.

Burn project ejects blank DVD-r

If you are prompted to insert a CD/DVD blank disc into the Burner, you must have the proper UNUSED CD or DVD blank disk. You must use the SIZE disc that corresponds to the Size of the Data to be burned. A CD is 700 Megs thus anything greater than 700 Megs needs a larger disc such as a DVD that is 4.7 Gigs. If the data you are trying to copy to a disc is over 4.7G you need a Dual Layer DVD or BluRay that accepts 25Gigs.

Refurbished Dell Optiplex GX280 with DVD/CD-RW Drive will not recognize blank CDs in order to burn music. I was told by the seller that I had to purchase burn software. (I also had to purchase CinePlayer...

The windows might be corrupted. You could try editing the windows registry. here are the steps:

In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

last option, you could try installing imgburn. here's the download link:

If nothing happens, your dvd drive is bad.

Good Luck,

My gsa-h55n dvd rewriter does'nt read any dvd or cd.

Here are some things you can try:

1.- The DVD /-R "standard" is not really a "standard". Not all drives recognize all brands of writable DVD's. Go to your DVD drive manufacturer website and see what brands of writable DVD's he recommends and/or update your firmware. May read only or - DVDs.

2.- Sometimes there might be a software glitch somewhere. Un-install all your DVD burning software (Nero and Roxio require special registry tools to be completely removed which can you find on their home pages or on the net), reboot, and reinstall your DVD drive driver. Reboot again and install ONE of burning software program (you can also try putting in a blank dvd before having any burning software installed to see if you get a pop-up window from windows asking what to do next). Some peole claim that there can be conflicts if you use two burning software programs at the same time (like nero roxio).

3.- It could be a hardware hookup problem. This can be the case if your computer is new, you can read normal DVD's, and you have never tried to burn blank dvd's before. Open up your computer box and check the DVD hookups. Do you have more than one CD/DVD drive?. Which is the master/slave?. Does this mach what windows reports?. Are the IDE switches correct?. Unhook the DVD drive and other drives and redo the motherboard-drive connection yourself. Check that all the pins align how they are supposed to, etc. It is always a good idea to have the DVD /-R to be a master drive and to leave the other CD drives on the side while testing. If you feel uncomfortable moving cables around -don't be- search the net for detailed instructions on this till you feel comfortable enough to do it.

4.- Your DVD drive could be broken. Get hold of a friends computer and try to install it there. Does it work?. If it doesn't you should be able to get it replaced by the people who sold it to you.

5.- There might be a serious software or even a motherboard problem. Get a hold of a friends DVD drive that works for him and try to install it in your computer. Can you get it to work?. If you can consider replacing your DVD drive by one similar to your friends. If you can't check and recheck your motherboard settings and try switching out the IDE cables with your friends. Consider upgrading your motherboard BIOS (this may void your warranty) or even reinstalling windows (backup your data first!).

D: Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2102 ("Write error - Medium error")

Yo' Sam!

Start by checking your WINDOWS CONTROL PANEL. Be sure there are no errors for your drivers. IF you have your proper drivers for your DVD Drive, totally remove ALL drivers and then restart your system... still have problems?

Next TOTALLY DELETE your Roxio program... somewhere on the Internet there is a tool that will do just that. You want to try your best to CLEAR and ALL hard drive and REGISTRY traces of ROXIO program(s)!

Just ONE bad ROXIO/REGISTRY problem can have you chasing your tail for days/forever.

With ROXIO deleted, try one of the FREE DVD burning programs to assure it's not really a DVD problem?

I just did a GOOGLE check and there are tons of hits for you.

Hope this helps!
