Tv go thru different functions on its own after being on for a few minutes.
Turn the tv on and after about 45 minutes it starts switching to pip mode and zoom modes and colors greens and pinks and yellows start swirling around. Seems like it does it after it warms up. When you first turn it on it has no problems.

After it warms up, and starts your problem. turn tv off. unplugg it. then feel the tops off all the caps for heat. also check the hv wires for leak and fluid leakage on boards. could be a possible broken trace or cracks in solder. possible in signal board.

You are lucky in that this is problem you can solve yourself with a little diligence. The set has defaulted to the 'Theater Mode'. It happens frequently with this model. It is merely a setting in the customer menu. Go into either SETUP or ADVANCED SETTINGS and look for something refering to 'Thearter Mode' and turn it off. An owners manual would help locate it.
Either the micro is failing or the eeprom has become corrupted.. You can try unplugging the set for 15 minutes - not less - and allow the eeprom itself and see if that cures the problem. If not the micro has failed and it's best to take it in because usually something else probably caused the failure (cap, diode open resistor, etc.) and the tech will have to trace test to find out what..
MrKevin, some Hitachis have 2 different pip buttons on the remote, I believe 1 says pip mode or something to that effect, do the rest of the functions on your remote work? Check and see if you have a second pip button and be sure the remote is set to "tv" if it has that little slide button on the side, good luck, hope this helps
