You will need to disassemble the entire amp, check all components and replace burned ones.
some components burn when wrong polarized.

it is a strange one. you do need an earth wire lead but the problem i'm seeing is that your mains maybe the wrong way round.. try another socket to plug into but im thinking the socket you are using is wired the wrong way round. camp sites are tested on a regular basis as they have a lot of use on there plugs so there sockets will be the right voltage and the right way round for the volts.

Break lights on all times????????????????????

Hi

I know you said the switch is all the way out but they can stick internally and will appear that the switch is still out but the small conatct inside will still be down. check that before going any further.

No your right the abs would not cause the brake lights to stop working in any way as it is not connected at all. Check the earth/ground leads from the rear light clusters to the car body, ensure they have a good conatct, shiny metal to metal. check the wiring from the rear lights also.

sometimes people use the wrong bulb in the brake lights and the light connections connect the cluster board as one, basically the wrong bulb can make the lights stay on through contact to an incorrect part of the assembly board for the rear lights.

Alos check the main battery lead black one earth/ground from the car battery to the car body ensure again this has a good contact from the battery to the car body. there will be another earth lead going to the gearbox, check all your earths, as a poor earth can again cause this fault.

Thats quite a bit of information, sorry it's just there are so many things that can cause this fault.

Hope this helps

The wiring could be wrong, it sounds like you have taken the live feed from ignition, the main feed should be direct from the battery with an inline fuse as close to the + terminal as you can, the earth lead should be as short as you can from the amp to the chassis, and the remote lead comes from the head unit.

Hi
Probably put your family at risk of electricution . By connecting the live cables to earth you have effectivly made all the metal light fittings live. It is amazing that the fuse has not blown, This in itself is dangerous and you should have an electrician look at the wiring.
The correct wiring should be as follows.
Identify cables there should be 2 twin and earth (red black & copper earth) cables and 1 twin red and copper earth. (or 2 single red wires)
connect all copper earth wires suitably sheathed in green/yellow sleeving to earth lug.
Connect 2 black cables to neutral block.
Connect either single red (0r 1 of 2 reds) into live block.
connect remaining 3 reds into loop block.

My amp is not working! i have a live from battery and a good earth, but still nothing, does it need to be earthed to back of head unit?

Do you have the remote turn-on lead hooked up?

There should be 3 wires on the power side of the amplifier.

Ground - to the car chassis
Power - to the car battery
Remote - to the remote turn on lead from the head unit. (this emits a 12V signal to a relay inside the amplifier for it to turn on when the radio does)

Protection light coming on when car is off but when the car is on it works fine, protection light is killing battery while car is off.

The amplifier appears to be permanently live thus running and drawing current (often significant) all the time. This will drain batteries relatively quickly (particularly a smaller older battery as expected).

As for the protection circuit. This could be a number of things. Firstly it could be undervoltage that is causing this, whereby a low voltage when the alternator is not charging is triggering the protection circuit. Alternatively it could be a wiring issue. If the Earth is switched instead of the main live, but somehow the device has a poor earth elsewhere (ie through the remote live which is NOT live when switched off) this could also trigger the protection circuit.

All amps are different of course, but most have a permenant 12v feed, an earth and a remote live which is generally triggered either by the ignition or by the headunit when this switches on. If it has these 3 power connections but they are not wired up this way then modifying this to follow these rules will help you.

Hi FR101621

This is not good, you should not get electric shocks of any part of your gear. I strongly suggest that you take it to a qualified electronics guy that can perform an electrical safety check on it for you. It may be that the earth potential of your mains is different to the earth potential of the floor you are standing on. This may cause a small shock(would depend what country you are in and the mains system supply you are using). In any case, I would (for your safety) get it checked and tagged as safe. This is the only way to be sure you wont eventually GET KILLED!! Does not cost alot, usually about $30. Then you know it is good
