Question about SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Onyx

Simpletech 250 GB Pininfarina was knocked on the floor

I have a simple tech 250 GB that was recently accidentally knocked to the floor. There was no damage to the outside of the casing , but inside you can hear some loose items. I reconnected it to the computer turned it on and it started to make ticking sounds. Although it is connected the computer does not recognize it and does not show it. How can I retrieve the data that is stored on the drive?

Oped it, maybe loose cables or connections. or the worst case, a faulty hd. ticking sound means bad drive, cannot read disks. retrieve data? the better chance will be a recover technician, dont try anything else, will turn a worst problem.

Try a new usb cable or a different usb enclosure.

Also try and remove the drive from it's enclosure and connect direct to a sata port on a desktop pc.

Save information on a separate hd and wait for folowing operations to be successfull : format your Pininfarina in FAT 32 . Copy data back to Pininfarina . Connect Pininfarina to Mac and proceed further on .

Simpletech external hd 250 Gb is not reckon by vista (though was before) but works ok on XP. USBs are ok. It appears in disk management (says it is working properlly but no letter asigned to it) but does...

You need to partition it and format it inside of disk manager. You can do this by right clicking on the device (the gray box next to where it said there was no letter assigned)and selecting initialize.
