Question about LG RC389H DVD/VHS Recorder

Open Question

LG DRT389H - DVD copy protection or encryption removal

Anyone have a way to remove the copy protection feature when finalising a DVD???

let me explain:
I am a video editor and purchased the 389H DVD recorder to be able to dump my video timeline in real time on to DVD-r for my clients to view. To date this has worked a treat, but now i have come across an issue which I can't resolve.

EXAMPLE of issue:
I have an audio/video output via scart from my edit suite into the 389H DVD recorder and have recorded 10mins of footage. I finalise the DVD. But when i try to copy the DVD to send to 2 different clients our DVD copy tower nor a computer with toast will let me???

therefore i need a hack to remove this annoying feature. I've been told it is possible by LG but they wouldn't give me the codes... aaahhhhh

help

No. This is to try and prevent "pirating" of those movies. If you Must make copies for "archival" purposes, you will have to buy some sort of time base corrector to copy these...accordianman

SOURCE: finalise disc

You need to put the disk back into the recorder, select the finalize function from the onscreen menu, and follow prompts. Do you have an owners manual for the unit?

SOURCE: How to finalise on my DVD recorder?

You will need to finalize them with the dvd recorder, it may also refer to it as closing the disk, it may be a button on the remote but more than likely it will be an option in a menu.....I can't seem to find a manual for it right now, If you have one you may want to read through it , thats how I found out how to finalize dvds with my philips. I'll try looking for a manual again later but right now I have to go to work so I'll get back to you on this.

Can anyone with a RH1777 help me finalise my dvd blank disk with his/her recorder?

If you can't find someone with the same recorder you could try putting the DVD into a computer DVD drive. It might be possible to get the video files off the DVD. DVD files are called VOB. You can get free software that will play them. It might even rip the files from the disc for you. You can then transfer them to a DVD disc using the computer.

LG DRT389H.Hello showing all the time, will not do anything more.

Not a solution I'm afraid, but I have exactly the same problem which started out of the blue. A pre-redcorded [bought] DVD had been left in it so I thought that might be the problem, and I managed to remove the DVD unit, take its cover off and remove the DVD. Problem still persists however. Powering off for 10 mins or holding down power switch for more than 5 secs as per instruction book does not help as the machine never really switches on fully - it is hanging half way through 'booting up'. Looks like there are assorted other probs with this recorder from other fora, so not the bargain I first thought it was. Has been fine up to now.

My DVD recorder doesn;t record. When I go to replay there is nothing on the Recorded list. (The message PSO is showing on the front of the recorder. Is this coneected?)

Ok recording is impossible.
1.this unit may not record programs that contain copy protection signal.
2.Check that there is nothing on the disc to start off with.
3.check that the disc is CPRM compatible.copy onc programmes can only be copied onto the disc which is CPRM compatible.
4.check if the the disc is protected or finalised.Undo the protection or the finalisation.
5.DVD-RW usually once formatted in another unit cannot be recorded in your unit unless formatted.
6.Check all connections are properly made.

HOW DO I RECORD A DVD TO A VHS ON A VHS DVD COMBO BY PHILIPS

Cannot do this on a combo unit. There is a chip that senses copy protection and prevents recording a copy-protected DVD to a VHS and vice-versa. Solution: Use an outboard DVD player or an outboard VHS VCR and try the recording with the video routed through a "stabilizer" box. The stabilizer (about $30 or less on Ebay) defeats the copy protection on MOST DVDs, but not all. It works with Netflix DVDs. Route the audio as usual. Audio is not protected.
