Question about Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 Webcam

2 Answers

Lifecam VX 3000 will no longer work with Windows Live Messenger.

My cam used to work under option, View Webcam. It never worked under video call conditions, showing pic of cam with red cross through it. I am using IBM T41 Thinkpad with Windows XP Professional.
The option to view cam could not be accessed so I re-installed windows live messenger. Now the only option I get is Video Call.
I also downloaded the latest software for the cam from Microsoft but still cannot get cam to work at all with windows live messenger.
Everyting is set up properly as I can see cam very well in the setup audio and video.
The cam works with all other programmes, Yahoo, Skype, ICQ etc.

I carried out suggestion of deleting USB hub drivers and then reinstating them.
I re-installed both windows live messenger and webcam software.
Iset my personal profile to "show I have webcam"
I disabled webcam from audio video set-up then enabled it again.

The only option I get on messenger is Video Call, the option to Show Webcam, is no longer available. I believe this is a Microsoft update, which is a pain.
I can now get cam to work, but only if the recipient requests the video call.
If I request video call, all I get is a pic of cam with red cross.

What else can I do to resolve the issue.

I would like ideally to have option to simply "Show Webcam"

Go to Live Messenger "Tools" menu and find the settings called "Setting audio and video" and "Parameters of the webcam."

After setting the two menus properly you will get the camera picture on Messenger.

I already have gone through this set up several times

When it is set up I get preview of my cam and all seems fine.

However when I am in a conversation and I initiate a video call, the recpient cannot see my cam and all I get on my cam is pic of cam with red cross.

The only time my cam works is it the person I am in conversation with initiates the video call.

    This is not correct.

    Can you offer another solution

You will need to uninstall and reinstall the USB hub in the device manager the press the tab to scan for hardware changes and the hub will reinstall itself. Also try this program, it cleans out the registry errors (old files). Click on the link below to download

I deleted the USB drivers and then reinstalled.

I ran the registry clean up tool

    restarted my laptop.

There is no change to the way windows live messenger sees my webcam.

the only optiion when chatting to a friend is Video Call.

When I click CAM Icon or click video, my friends camera works but my cam does not.

It is as though messenger dosent recognise the cam.

The previous option that was available on wondows live messenger, to send webcam only, is no longer an option.

The cam set up is correct and it works well with all other programms.

Following further research, I found that Windows Live Messenger has changed and only now allows Video Calling. The option to "show webcam" has been disabled.

I used tools, audio / video set up and disabled the cam.

I then went to Personal settings and set webcam so Others could see my webcam status.

I then signed out then signed in again.

I can now see my webcam when I invite someone to video call. However the recipient only sees a pic of cam with red cross.

I am now at a total loss to understand what on earth is going on.

Please can you offer a working solution

Once disconnected Lifecam works only after restarting the comp

do a cam/mic test in the audio/video settings in the tools tab in yahoo. Then you need to minimise the yahoo screen and right click on the cam icon in the taskbar and check that the mic and cam are enabled and that it is set to allow other programes to take control of this device
