Homelite weed trimmer bogs down and smothers out quits running

This could be a number of things. Clogged air filter/fuel filter/carburetor/fuel tank lid breather hole, cracked fuel line or primer bulb, or clogged spark arrestor in muffler. Here's some links that will help to change the bulb, fuel cap, fuel lines, rebuild carb, replace spark arrestor, and troubleshoot.

My husband has a Homelite XL-2 chainsaw and the muffler came loose - what kind of a tool do you use to tighten it.

I think this is an older model similar but lighter than the good old CF 55. It may have two screws of #10-32 size thread on the top and bottom of a small narrow muffler that has lots of horizontal slits. It is best to replace these with SHCS socket head cap screws of the exact same length and pitch of thread and try to use some locktite blue thread lock fluid to keep them in there. Beware there are lots of different screw pitches used like 10-24, 10-32, 1/4-28 so you have to have an old one to match up when buying two new ones. Reverse it and see if it goes into the threads of the new screw beside it. These SHCS screws have the best thread and will use an allen key in english size. Larger hardware stores will have all this stuff and even seperate allen keys for that size only. If they are left loose they kill your ears, and can strip and then you can never get them tight again. The material is quite week so be very sparing on the tension after it bottoms out on the muffler, a half turn of tension can sometimes be all you can do in cast aluminum.

Homelite trimmer ut 15151 How do I replace pull

Remove the tube that holds the flex-drive shaft from the front of the motor cover.Remove the rear engine cover. Remove the throttle cable from the carburetor. Mark and unplug any wires for the on/off switch that go to the ignition coil (underneath front cover) if possible. Now if you have pulled the driveshaft tube out of the way, the clutch drum is up next. Inside it, screwed into the very end of the engine's crankshaft is a Torx #25 screw. Before you loosen it, you will have to lock up the engine. To do so, remove the spark plug. Pull on the starter until the piston is down, then insert a length of clean, soft rope into the engine. The engine will come up and compress the rope, thus locking it in place to allow clutch drum and clutch removal. Loosen the T-25 screw inside the drum.. You may be able to remove it with a long thin-blade screwdriver also.It probably won't come completely out...it is made this way. Next, remove the clutch. It is screwed onto a small threaded section of the crankshaft Removal is counterclockwise.. It will be pretty tight. To help, apply peneterating oil. Whack the ears of the clutch near the center with a dull flat-blade chisel and hammer unless there are bolts. then use wrench. It will turn counterclockwise for removal and there will probably be a removal direction arrow on it's face. After getting that off, remove the Torx screws holding the cover to the engine. The starter unit should be mounted inside as it mates with the top of the flywheel to start the motor. Remember to preload tension (5-7 turns) on the starter unit. Make sure the handle is installed. Jam the unit with a screwdriver or vise grips so you can insert and tie off the new rope. Then remove jam device and let recoil pull your new rope into place while holding the handle. Reassemble and you are done. Disassembly requires Torx head drivers

NEED TO REPLACE SPARK ARRESTER ON HOMELITE LITE 26CC STRING TRIMMER

Remove the Torx screws holding the rear cover on. Then remove the larger Torx screws holding the muffler on to the exhaust port of the cylinder. There will be a gasket there. The spark arrestor will be mounted in the opening to the muffler. You can scrape or burn the carbon off of it. If the spark arrestor is real clogged up, then the muffler probably is too. It should also be cleaned. The inside of the engine probably is carboned up too( if arrestor and muffler are). They all should be cleaned of carbon. It helps the engine perform at its' best and breathe like it needs to.

Check the muffler for obstructions. Remove the muffler and check the exhaust port sometimes they are near plugged. If so remove all the crud with the cylinder in up position to prevent getting carbon in cylinder. Trimm to adjust Turn both L and H set screws clockwise until they bottom the back each one out 1 and 1/4 turn. This should allow you to start the trimmer. Then rev to max rpm and adj. the H screw to max rpm. Then set the idle with the L screw with good idle without string head turning. Then when throttled it should do so without hesitation. Once this is set you may have to fine trim the H screw for max rpm again.
