Shift key not working

You have 2 Shift keys on the keyboard. If the other shift key is working then the shift key that is not working is defective. You should consider replacing the keyboard on your laptop. There is no setting on Windows that can disable the shift key.

**Note : If both Shift keys are not working, Try to check if sticky keys feature on windows is on. Sticky keys should be disabled. To disable sticky keys, Click on start and Go into control panel > Accessibility Options, and under keyboard there is sticky keys. Remove the tick and click apply and OK.

**If "Use Sticky Keys" is unchecked, that means sticky keys is disabled.

Dropped soda in my acer keyboard-did not seem to harm electronics, but keys are starting to stick . I turned it upside down right away. computer seems to work ok- other than sticky keys

Get a clean, damp, warm and soapy dish cloth or face flannel. Gently wipe the keys that are effected, keep on doing this until the keys become loose and not too sticky.

Where is sleep button on my laptop

Hi, you can change the function of the "Power" button to perform different functions. Follow the instructions; from the Start Menu, go to Control Panel, next select Hardware and Sound, click on the Power Option icon, from here you can make changes... like "when the computer ("Sleep, Awake, Hibernate..."). You can also ajust the Display setting on the "Monitor" aswell. "Did this solution help? If so, "Rating" it is appreciated, thanks"

the classic post, is it hardware or software.? endless now and future.
wow no PC stated, at all nor OS ,(op sys running? is?)
the HP service tag , what does it tell you, it is, HP will ask you the same question or get no help there.
  • BAD KEYBOARD , try another yet?
  • Corrupted OS. (virus or bunged drivers)
if you boot to any test disk or stick does it fail still.?
I have a linux CD and Linux boot USB stick.
I insert it and boot to it, its super simple to do on all PCs made.
if Linux like this KBD then the KBD is not bad, for a fact.
that takes, 5min or less work. to learn this fact.
did you know a USB keyboard works on laptops too? try it.

this link solves , corrupted OS. (the easy way of 3 possible)

The worst case is laptops(notebooks)

here is LT running perfectly with no original keyboard
take any USB keyboard and plug it in, and test any LT made.
and any Desktop made with USB ports,
all LT have USB, (not in 1984 HPs first)

now the easy test

I have a live linux and a live windows PE disk and mem stick in my service kit. (ask how to make one its free, and easy after buy blank CD or stick)
i boot to that usb stick and say linux loads, in seconds... btw.
wow my keyboard works now , so my HDD installed OS is infected
or corrupted ,the cure restore the software, using HP methods.
one other OS related cure.
if some kids messed up the keyboard driver seen in device manager., (super hard to do) then get it at hP .com and reload it.
or right click the keyboard line in DM. and click update. driver.

DM and keyboard line present and me clicking update driver there.

Tea spilt on Laptop

If you can put up with the sticky keys and they still work then it is OK.
Otherwise you need to replace the keyboard.

Sticky keys

Now by sticky keys do you mean that when a key is pressed that it stays pressed even though your not hitting the key anymore? Or is it that certain keys such as Cntrl, alt, and delete stick. If its the latter you'll need to go into control panel and open up ease of access, from here go to make the keyboard easier to use. Once here there will be an option to have sticky keys, uncheck this box if it is checked. Also there is another option in this menu that says filter keys. If this box is checked uncheck it. Hope this helps.

Keyboard repair

You should call Acer tech support and enquire about a keyboard. I am sure that they will tell you to take the computer to their rep for your area. Normaly they change the keyboard when there is a fault. If the circuit board under the keys is defective or if one of the IC's on the board failed, this would not be servicable at all. The keyboards on these computers were not really designed to be able to be serviced.
