My laptop will not turn on with the adapter or battery. The battery life is dead so i removed it. I recently purchased a new 90 watt adapter and that doesn't work. The adapter, plugged in, make a slight buzzing sound, but no lights come on or anything.

Re: Gateway mx6030 laptop won't turn on
hopefully you got the right adapter for the machine and if so and still no lights or nothing you can try to hold in the resetr button on the back of the machine and turn on the power at the same time and see what happens if still nothing i would look at getting the machine serviced by a authorized dealer
you may have a bad board or the internal cmos battery is dead or there is a loose connection somewhere ok?
best regards michael

try running laptop without battery (usually removed by sliding tab on bottom of latop to release battery) if laptop runs fine then probably faulty or dead battery.............replace battery. If laptop does not run, turns off then probably faulty adapter........replace adapter.
If the battery won't charge and the laptop won't turn on but the ac adapter works with other laptops, then the problem is the port where you plugin the ac adapter. Some of the laptops has it built in to the motherboard. So you might need to have it repaired by a technician. Or if the laptop is still in warranty, you might need to send it to the manufacturer to have it repaired or replaced. But if the laptop works without the battery, or it will turn on but the battery indicator is not lighting up, you're facing one of these problems.
1. The battery itself is dead.
2. the battery bay is loose
3. the battery itself is loose
Hope this helps...
Do this through the device manager found when you right click MY COMPUTER - Properties, Hardware, device manager. Find the Network adapters and open it. click on Upgrade driver. Find the drivers at www.gateway.com/support
You can download and reinstall the WindowsXP audio driver for your Gateway MX6030 to restore it's options and functionality. You can access the driver for this system at: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=20463&dscr=Gateway%20Conexant%20Audio%20Driver%20Version:%206.14.10.0565&uid=25562221
It sounds like this could be one of two things: 1.) The a/c power adapter (power cable) is bad and no longer charges your laptop. You can check to see if the light on the black box that connects the cable to the wall is illuminated, if so...it probably is not the cable. If it is not illuminated, you can try plugging it into another outlet to see if it comes on.
2.) This could also be a case of a bad battery. In which case, you might need to look into ordering a replacement.
Both the a/c power adapter and the battery replacement can be found online (ebay, etc), but you should try to pinpoint if it is the cable or the battery before ordering parts. Cables are cheaper than batteries!
Hope this helped.
How long did you leave the battery out?
To discharge the BIOS you need to short out the battery contacts, or disconnect the battery for 1/2+ hours.
If this does not work the it is near impossible to remove because the password would be stored on an EEPROM chip.
Check with Gateway, they might suggest a motherboard replacement just like IBM.
