How can I restore my system settings in my computer

Well there are several ways to approach this, 1st you can use system restore, to take your system back to a date that it worked fine, to do that go to the start pearl in the search bar type in system restore, click the Icon for system restore it will give you a calendar with several restore points that your computer has saved along the way. your system will go back to those exact settings, now if this is a virus issue, that is beyond system restore then a complete factory default is in order. Depending on what type of computer you have some have build in restore partition that are build in your windows OS. if thats the case simply hit F8 during start up and choose repair your computer and them choose restore to factory condition, this will delete any files you have on your computer and restore it to out of the box condition. System restore will not delete your data but, often restore points themselves are corrupted, my recommendation is to back up your files and do a complete factory restore.
Hope this helps please feel free to ask any follow up questions you may have on this thread.
Take care :)

To restore your laptop to its previous or factory settings try using the system restore option. You can access the System Restore by navigating to Start--> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore. After opening the System Restore Tool you select this option " Restore computer to an earlier time". Then you can see the calender displaying the present month and some bold dates in it. You can go back to the month of the purchase your computer and then select one of the bold dates and click "Next". Then the system will restore and it re-starts on its own. why its not reading those disks is because the system is still there. To put it back to factory you will have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the win operating system it came with. Any updates to the Win xp you have wont allow going back to begining as if it were a factory fresh/ or factory referb.

Factory restore

On a laptop there is no factory setting reset option (unless you mean bios reset ). To get the laptop back to the initial 'as new' condition you need to re-install the system using the recovery disk on startup. Put recovery cd 1 inside laptop cd drive and restart the computer. Follow instructions for complete restore.
If you do complete restore you can lose all your data.
