Sata drive jumper settings of sata slave drive????

SATA disk drives are meant to be on a controller all by themselves. This particular drive's jumpers only change the transfer rate. I can give you a digram of the jumper settings and what they mean if you want. You probably have that though and were wondering because it didn't say anything abouy master and slave right? How many frives does your system have including your cd/dvd but not the WD? Will your system handle a SATA drive? Check in the BIOS.

I have one of these drives as well in my HP Desktop m7640n and it no longer boots in my desktop so I pulled it, purchased a new desktop and wanted to put this as a slave to recover my files. Is this possible if there is no slave setting? And if it is not possible to make it a slave, how do I go about recovering my files?

Support can be found at Seagate.com in case this is not the exact drive. The model number you listed was not an exact match.

SOURCE: SATA HDD make SLAVE

IDE Cable with 3 connectors (you have 1 or need to buy 1) :
- blue: conn to motherboard
- black: conn to master HD
- grey: conn to slave HD
Cable (select:) cable will auto detect with most modern HD's from same type (SATA it was i think) and you need to go to you're BIOS, set up cable select for the HD's. Maybe best to set up master first, not both at same time. If you have a SATA and ATA set up the master first, then other. So if SATA is slafe but it in grey connector, otherwise black. For an ATA you might need a converter cable for the power, most motherboards don't have 1.

SOURCE: Master slave jumper settings on 250gb Maxline Plus II SATA

There are no master/slave settings on SATA drives because each drive has its own cable. The drive order is determined by what SATA port they are plugged into, or by the BIOS configuration.

SATA drive position is determined by the plug on the motherboard, not a jumper. Jumper settings are for PATA drives (much older).

Trying to make my seagate barracuda 7200.9 slave

1) Open your computer case
2) On the back of the drive where the connectors are, you have jumpers. These small plastic tabs change the function of your hard drive. All hard drives have a special setup procedure. The information about jumper settings is on the top of the hard drive.
3) Remove plastic tabs and put them according to "Slave" instructions.
4) Connect drive to middle connector of the cord.
5) Connect power supply cord.
6) Secure the drive in place and close computer case.

Also make sure that the main drive is not set as slave.

Is there a jumper setting to run my hitachi 250 gb sata laptop hdd as a slave ?

There should be, look on the rear of the drive, close to the SATA and power connectors, you should see the jumper connections as well.

It varies from drive to drive, but the jumper setting could be engraved near the connector, look of SL for a slave setting.

If no, look on the label on the top of the drive, there should be the jumper settings listed there.
Some may be ambiguous, my last one offered the option of Master on / off. (Jumper in position 1 for on, no jumper for off) The off in this case was of course slave.

The result being, no jumpers - Slave.

Jumper setting for slave drive

there is no such master or slave setting when SATA is used.
it is mainly used to tell the motherboard which one is master or slave when connected with IDE cable (PATA).
you don't need to worry about it as you are using a SATA HD.

the boot disk priority can be set in the BIOS
press del or F2 after you press the power button on CPU. you will be put with the BIOS/CMOS setup. go to boot priority and set accordingly, there is also an option to set the default hard disk in case you have more than one HD.

How to make sata hard disk a slave???

Look at the jumper settings. These jumpers are located near the data cable and the power port of the hard disk. Usually by default, this jumper is set to "Master". To make it a slave, just remove the black or blue jumper or please refer to the jumper guide table printed in you hard disk's label.
