I would say over $100.00 as freon has to be leaking to be low. Technician must find and repair leak if any. When doing this he or she will need to install valves for adding freon. Many companies now charge at least $65.00 for service call just to show up.

I have not recharged a system in a while. If the system is out of freon will the compressor still turn to pull in the refrigerant.

It should take the freon . Compressors will actually pull a vacuum if the refrigerant
is completely exhausted. You should be able to recharge system if the unit is just low
on refrigerant.

If no pressure is in system, I would have the accumulator replaced and
have a vacuum pulled on the system before recharging it. (The accumulator has a
dessicant/ filter in it and may become clogged if the system is empty)
The vacuum is to boil off any moisture in the system
from having it open and also to check for leaks. If moisture enters the system because of a leak then it can freeze in the metering
device when the system is recharged. I hope this helps.

Goodman/Amana air handler freezing up and not cooling home. What could be causing it?

Hi,
There are two things that cause freeze up's...

Low air flow...

Low freon...

First check the filters, the blower , and the air vents to make sure that the air handler unit can move enough air...not enough air across the coil, the coil gets too cold, ice forms....

The low freon problem will require professional assistance...
For the system to be low there needs to be a leak...the leak must be found and repaired or the fix will only be temporary...
To do this the system refrigerant must be recovered, the leak fixed and then the system vacuumed and recharged...

One other thing....outdoor air temperatures under say 65 F can also cause freezing.... but I am assuming that you are above that if you are running your A/C system.

Mod# PTH093A35AC: Unit has quit running. Blower appears to be frozen up. Prior to non-functioning it was making a loud clicking sound while running in heat mode, almost like coils were freezing up....

yes the blower can be replaced / not all that difficult have a screw gun ready though...several screws to gain access.... the unit normally comes as a sealed system (meaning no actually service ports to add freon but can be ported and a tap added to check and add refrigerant to system... these heat pump systems are great when working correctly ,but when it does drop below 20-25 degrees outside they will start to freeze as the defrost cycles in them are normally not very long and the unit cant keep up so in return they will start to freeze up, however if the blower motor started to go out and unit was running it will freeze up on you.... hope this info helps out feel free to repost with anymore questions you may have.....

Doesnt freeze, now fridge is getting hot i cleaned it out

Most likely you have a freon leak. If the motor is still running, the condenser coils should be warm. if they aren't, then they have no coolant left and will probably have to be replaced.

Good day,
Sounds as if the relay has failed again. ....or when relays start going bad, it could be an issue with the internal part of the compressor.
But the relay approach should be your first step.

What is the cost for a repairman to replace the compressor of an Amana ARB2257CSR?

depends on price of parts plus labor time -easy replacement nothing in way to work on unit, wiring good and compressor/freon oil is not contaminated should take about 2 hrs @ $70hr ---$40 house call plus price of compressor[which can be from 100 to 200+] ,freon, filter and other mics parts it adds up quick best is to call and ask for an estimate from a repair service
