No drive detected

All of a sudden today, my Dell Insprion E1705 froze and then went to "disk error". It gives me error code 2000-0141, which is "no drive detected". I cannot get it to recognize the hard drive. What can I do?

I tried pressing delete whn starting up, but it just gives me multiple "disk error" messages. When I was able to run diagnostics, it said it could not find the hard drive.

I don't have an extra SATA hdd, so I guess I am going to have to pay an exorbitant sum to have someone do all this.

I have confirmed the death of my hard drive. I have a replacement to install, which I will tackle tonight. I found out why it happened...I moved my laptop from my study to the kitchen without first turning it off. Apparently that kind of movement can cause your hard drive to crash. Thank goodness I have been using Carbonite.

Try inserting another SATA hdd (hope you have an extra) and see if your laptop computer detects it or not.

if it does, then your old hdd is confirmed to have totally crashed

if it does not detect still, then you are faced with a bigger problem which is the board.

    By the way.

Accessing the bios for the Dell inspiron 1705 you need to press F2 upon boot up and not DEL key.

Hey koko

can you try to restart your laptop and try to go into BIOS..

press delete when your laptop is starting up.

when your already in BIOS, look for the booting sequence. you must determine that your harddrive is recognized at this point and make it a primary boot.

post back for any more questions ok.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and when I turn it on it tells me NO BOOTABLE DEVICE DETECTED This happen one other time and I rebooted my computer and it came back on but it did not work this time what can I...

NO BOOTABLE DEVICE When the PC cannot see a boot file/disk on either the hard disk or floppy drive it gives an error message "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key"
There may be a hard disk problem.
Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open the case and re-seat the hard drive and also where it connects to the motherboard.
If it still gives this error message and the BIOS does not detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.

To get the computer operating again, install a new hard drive in your computer and then install Windows on this hard drive plus the computer's device drivers and your programs.

Dell Vostro 3500 suddenly shut down, start up and works fine, after 2 minutes turn off without any warning message this happened after i installed bios upgrade A10 from

this is happening because of bios upgrade but not in a bad way. May be there is a hardware problem just starting so new bios upgrade is detecting that and thats why its restarting.

basically sudden shut down occurs in either cases- Fan not working or hard disk(or RAM) gone bad.

my advise is to contact dell customer support and they will guide you thru trouble shooting steps.
they will guide you if your warranty is not there.

I have a Dell Inspirion E1705 which came installed with Windows XP. When I turn the computer on, I get the Dell Logo, then nothing except a cursor in the top left side. I tried booting from the...

try this, while the computer is off, press and hold the Fn key down then press the power button like turning it on.. it should say diagnostics boot selected. if it passes the test windows would have to be reinstalled. if it fails with error codes 0141, 0142, 0143 or 0146 then the hard drive has to be replaced.

Dell Inspiron Error Msg 2000-0141 cannot detect Hard Drive

You might have a hard drive crash, Meaning the hard drive needs to be changed out in it.

This happends over time, heat,AGE and all other sorts of occurances. Hard drives to not last! period! The only fix here is to have the hard drive replaced with new. Now in this model the hard drive should be on the bottem of the unit under a cover. you take a screw driver and open that hatch and take the hard drive out. You can bring that to a local best buy or computer shop and have a replacement put in Around $89-150 bucks depending on size you get and brand.

Thanks I hope this helps you out please do be considerate and leave postive feedback and ratings for your free answer today.

Dell XPS M1330 PC - battery not detected

The error code 0146 and the battery are two separate problems. First the battery problem is simple, it's bad and needs replaced. It being bad can refer to a developed short, a fail safe kicked in, or it's simply worn out. It is a battery after all, ad they don't last forever, the more you use them the quicker they wear out. A bad battery causing an issue is vary common with Dell machines, and a false battery reading with a failing battery is also common. The orange flashing battery light is the indicator that the battery isn't working properly, either by fail safe or wear.

The error code 0146 Is from the short test on the hard drive and indicates the a sector is going bad, and eventually the hard drive is going to fail. At this point, your hard drive may last days, or months. Either way, I suggest that you back up all important data, and purchase a new hard drive for the imminent failure. You might even go ahead and set it up, this way you'll be prepared when it does go, and you won't have any downtime.
