Hello,

The "Ink system failure" error is caused by air in the ink feed tubes. The happens if you allow the ink o fully run out of the cartridge and the printer sucks up air or you use a poorly filled ink cartridge with air bubbles. To clear the error you will need to perform a feed tube purge. This procedure takes about 10 minutes to complete. We have the step by step guide to do this posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/hp-printer-repair/ This should get you back going.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Hello,

The 'ink system failure' error is caused by air in the ink feed tubes inside the printer. This problem is caused by either letting your ink run totally out in one or more cartridges or using poorly refilled cartridges. You will need to run a purge routine to flush the ink tubes of the air and clear the error message. We have an article posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/hp-printer-repair/ that will walk you thru running the purge routine. It takes about 10 minutes to do but then your printer should be good as new.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Ink System Failure Oxc18a0401 happened after I installed a new yellow HP ink cartrage. Have gone through pressing buttons according to instructions and cannot find a solution.

The ink system can fail if the cartridges in the printer are installed incorrectly, if the ink in the cartridge is low or out, or if the cartridges are damaged or not correctly vented. Follow these steps to check the cartridges thoroughly and resolve any issues you might find. Step one: Replace empty or low cartridges The error prevents you from checking ink levels using the HP software. However, this error can be caused by a low or empty cartridge. If the Ink Alert message displayed before the error occurred, replacing the cartridge might resolve the issue. Step two: Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly
  1. Turn on the product
  2. Lift the cartridge access door to open it.
  3. To remove the cartridge, press the tab on the front of the cartridge to release it, and then remove it from the slot.
Do not leave the cartridges outside the printer longer than 30 minutes. Doing so can result in damage to both the printer and the cartridges.
  4. Examine the vent area, which is located on top of the cartridge, next to the HP logo. If an orange tab is attached to any cartridge, remove it.
  5. If any of the cartridges have clogged vents, use a pin to clean the vents.
  6. Using the colored shape icons for help, slide each cartridge into the correct empty slot, and then press down until the cartridge snaps firmly into place in the slot.
  7. Close the cartridge access door.
  8. Check the product control panel display.
Step three: Use the automatic printhead cleaning utility
REMARQUE: The automatic printhead cleaning utility is available only if you installed the HP software that came with your printer. Follow these steps to use the cleaning utility:
  1. Turn on the product, and then connect it to the computer.
  2. In the Windows system tray, double-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor (DIM) icon ,HP Solution Center opens in a new window.
  3. In HP Solution Center, click Settings .
  4. Under Print Settings , click Printer Toolbox . The Printer Toolbox opens.
  5. Click Clean the Printhead , and then follow the on-screen instructions. The product prints a test page when the printhead cleaning completes.
  • If the print quality is acceptable on the test page then there is no need to continue to troubleshoot.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

While using my HP C6280 printer it stopped working and the Ink System Failure oxc18a0401 appeared. It said to shut the printer off and turn it back on but this did not work. Prior to this error...

first off all disconnect the power cable from the surge protector or power stripe if any and connect it directly to the wall outlet

after that turn onn the printer try to make a copy

if you have solution center in your computer try to clean and allign the cartridges from the printer TOOL BOX in SOLUTION CENTER from your computer

still if it does not work follow the steps given in the url
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01125396&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3194498

and if still you get the same error it is the problem with the ink system so if your printer is in warranty call hp they will replace it for you
