Question about Maytag M7DH45B2A Dehumidifier

1 Answer

Coils freezing up, is this normal during operation?

Ice builds up on the inside. When I pull out the filter you can see the ice building from the bottom to the top on the coil or condenser or whatever that piece is. Can this be fixed?

Check fan speed. Also if coil (it's the evaporator) is clean.

Ice builds up for two basic reasons:
  1. Impeded air flow. This causes the dehumidifier to run constantly as the humistat never reaches it setpoint as there is limited or no airflow over the coils. Even with a filter, the cooling coils can become clogged and render airflow restricted or non-existent. Check and correct as necessary.
  2. A low refrigerant charge. Systems can leak over time and become low on charge. This causes extended period of running and the resultant freeze-up. If the coils and filter are clean, have the system checked for proper charge of refrigerant.

Dehumidifier freezes up

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# FDF50S, is freezing up. I see that the compressor does not shut off, causing ice to build up on the coils, rather than water draining off. What can cause this is your dehumidifier has been turned on recently. This is normal due to refrigerant rushing through the coil. Frost will usually disappear within 60 minutes. Another cause is if the room temperature is too low or too high. Your appliance is designed to operate between 41 degrees F and 96 degrees F. I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Restore power and start any cycle. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-
WP

Ice build-up on Danby Dehumidifier DDR583R

Make sure you have enough air moving over the coils. There is an air filter on some models which may be obstructed. Insufficient air flow will cause your problem.

Coils Ice Up and nothing is dehumidified

If the coil is clean, then have a tech check for a low charge. This will cause the coil to freeze up. Humidifers are known to lose gas and owners aren't told this so end up buying new one and scraping the old one. Trust me on this. I have seen this many times. I repair high end machinery as my business.

Fan fixed but evaporator solenoid keeps activating at times

the purpose of the valve is to de-ice the evaporator and the valve is turned on by a timer usually. in normal operation, the evaporator builds up with ice (that is how water is extracted). when the valve operates, to put it simply, the hot gas is routed to the evaporator and hence melts the ice off
