No sound after multiple attempts. No sound levels changing

Have connected turntable and new Dell Vostro as per instructions. Cannot get sound even after following instructions on pink sheet included with turntable, the start guide general instructions and the troubleshooting tips. How do I get sound. Operating on Windows 7. Is that a problem?

Several people are having this trouble but most seem to work ok .. the unit has its own built in preamp and digital interface so, in this case, you dont have to worry about what cartridge it has .. in fact you can hook its rca outputs to the aux of an amplifier (not the phono input) .. or you can connect them to your amplified computer speakers thru an RCA sterio to 1/8 inch jack adapter ... i am working on a solution remotely since i dont have the unit yet ... but here is a suggestion (for xp) .. find the volume icon in the bottom right task bar .. double click on that .. that should bring up a box with several volume controls .. make sure none have "mute" checkmarked .. turn up all the controls so you cant miss anything if it comes thru ..try the table ... now click on "options" in that volume control box then "properties" then put a dot for "recording" .. select all of the volume controls in the bottom box .. now click ok .. that will give you some level controls for recording . turn them up ..then select them one at a time to see if any work (with table playing) .. if none of that works then there is likely an incompatability .. you might look for upgraded drivers for your audio card .. .. i will likely have more on this as i remotely get one working or if i can find one to play with .. maybe a few days .. some audio cards turn off sound outputs when you are in the record mode .. thats so you dont get screeching thru the mic input .. but there is usually a way to defeat that .. the units software should have done that for you .. i have found some popular laptops that horrably dont have sterio inputs (only monoral for the mic input) ... on a few that can be fixed with special software but on others (like my inspiron 6000) there is no hope ... i purchased an audio input adapter that connects to the USB port .. that gives you several analog inputs that are sterio .. your turn table's digital output doesnt need analog inputs so you are ok unless you want to use the RCA jacks as audio input ..

here is a shortened verion of what ION is telling people. this is for vista or win7 but is similar to winXP hopefully ... i wll try to get specifics for XP unless someone else already has them .. yikes (hope you are a wizzard)

    1. Visit www.ionaudio.com/ezvc to download the latest EZ Converter software.

    2. install new software if needed,

    3. connect ION Audio USB. make sure its ON (if it has a switch)

    Setup Procedure

    1. click Start then Control Panel.

    2. double-click Hardware and Sound.

    3. double-click Sound.

    4. At top select Playback tab. choose the audio output device. Don’t chose “speakers-usb audio codec” (that’s your ION) don’t chose modem

    5. click Set Default.

    6. select Recording tab at top of Sound Control Panel. choose Microphone – USB Audio Codec as the default device. (that’s the ION)

    7. Click Set Default.

    8. click Properties. select Advanced tab

    9. set the Default Format setting to 2-channel, 16 bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality).

    10. Un-check the two boxes under Exclusive Mode. Click Apply

    11. select Levels tab from the top of the Sound Control Panel.

    12. Set the level slider to 4. Click Apply, click OK to close the window.

if you have to call this number for help then make sure you are set up and running and have your numbers ready. you have to sign in to get information (thats sad)

Is it only the turntable that does not have sound? If so it probably has a magnetic cartridge and only puts out 50mV. Is the input you are using a line input or is it a Mic input. If you only have a line input you may need to purchase a phono preamp. If it has a ceramic cartridge then it has 1V O/P so it should work on line input. Hope this helps.

Sound quality is so poor. cant listen music. volume is too low even with full sound

Normally the sound on the Vostro is lower than the Inspiron series as this is an executive office laptop.
All what can be done is you can download WINAMP and use to increase the equaliser /volume still further.
Also an active power speaker can be connected to the earphone socket to improve the volume to your desired level.

I hooked up the ion LP Dock to an analogue amplifier (which is hooked up to my LCD tv and outputs the sound through some bookshelf speakers) via the Phono input connections as per the instruction manual...

"PHONO" is the only designated connection on a receiver that is literal and exclusive. Nothing but PHONO will work right on it and old-school turntables would require it to preamplify the tiny current produced by a Phono cartridge.

BUT, modern turntables like your come with their own preamplifiers, so they MUST be connected to a garden variety Line Level input like AUX (anything BUT Phono or it will overload).

"LP DOCK also has a line-level output for connecting to any home stereo with an AUX input"

As far as WHY your amplifier isn't making da music, that could be whole 'nother problem.

We'd need more details about it and the speakers to go there.

You don't write how exactly is your printer connected - if I remember correctly, HP LJ 4P doesn't have a USB connector, and Vostro doesn't have the parallel port available.
So how did you connect it? Is it via some USB to parallel adaptor, or via JetDirect network card in the printer? There are multiple separate issues that may be applicable in either case...

Did you make the audio changes in the Windows Control panel documented in the Ez Vinyl 4.1 Setup Instructions? You must set audio format and levels to specified levels for Windows 7.

Distorted sound.

Your turntable is a preamp. Your amplifier might be going bad. did you connect it into phono? dont connect it into the cd or dvd input because those wont work.
