Hi, I have a Royal Companion Portable from 1940's. I bought new ribbons at mytypewriter.com (select the "Royal Portable" ribbon). It fits. Anyway if it doesn't it's not an expensive mistake, but I researched this and apparently all vintage Royal Portables have the same standard ribbon. Worked out in my case. Good luck!

Staples has a ribbon that fits great. I also have the Royal Senior Companion model. The original ribbon was a 1/2 inch wide purple ribbon, but the one I found at Staples is half purple, half white (correctable). You can shift the ribbon use selector to the red dot to use the lower half of this ribbon for making corrections. I've been using these compatible replacement ribbons for a long time and there has been no ill effect with my typewriter, except that you will need to blow out the white correction tape dust every once in a while.

Look for Dataproducts "compatible universal typewriter spool", a blue and white box. The number on the bottom of the package is #R7350. You can also look for this at dataproducts.com if you don't have a Staples near your home. I don't know if Office Depot carries them or not; I've yet to check there.

As you have may read in previous posts, most all of the old manual royal machines all use the same type of ribbon. Our most common product can be found here:

http://www.fjaproducts.com/common/results.asp?value=b54&box=cart&Referral=dfo293

The nice thing about our product, once you use the ribbon, flip it over and use the other side... this will provide you about 96 feet ( 32 yards)

Take care and you can always ask us 8-5 (pst) M-F

You should be able to contact Royal directly at 1-800-524-0799 for a typewriter ribbon. Unfortunaly my catalog does not list your exact model of typewriter.

Without a model or serial number I can't be sure, but if it is from the 50s it really doesn't have any "antique" value yet. Take care of it though.

The ribbon wont advance

The ribbon drive on this model are gear driven..a .may be off, a loose set screw on one of the gears..the ribbon may be the wrong one or it has a ribbon reverse lever on the side of the machine, this should be free of binds.
