Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Whirlpool Gold GS6NBEXRL00 Stainless Steel side-by-side-- The ice dispenser motor will not dispense ice from the refrigerator after pressing the dispensing lever. It did dispense occasionally if I would tap the door but now it doesn't do anything. I am out of warranty period so any simple repair I must do myself. By previously tapping the door to get the motor to work makes me believe that there is a short in the wiring somewhere inside the door (harness, connectors, boards, etc...). I have thought about taking the door apart to investigate but I wanted some advice first since I heard this was a sealed door. Has anyone successfully resolved this issue and how??? Please only respond if you have experience with this particular model and issue.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting Fixya.com.
Evaporator may need to be cleaned with a nickel safe - phosphoric and /or citric acid cleaner. Scale build-up on evaporator from water constantly flowing across it will prevent the sheet of ice from releasing. A mild scotch-brite cleaning pad with mild force to remove scale from the evaporator may also work. Follow up by running clean cycle to remove all dirt and contaminants from ice collection compartment.

Also When you push the ice dispensing lever, you should be able to hear the micro-switch clicking. If no click, the switch is faulty. The auger motor which is activated by the lever could also be faulty. This is the motor that causes the auger in the ice bucket to rotate one way for crushed ice and the other way for cubes. The auger could also be jammed. Try switching between crushed and cubes to unjam the auger. Empty the ice bucket and start again.

Let us know if you have something more to know else please accept the suggestion.
Thank You.

I'm sorry, but what does the first paragraph have to do with the question I submitted? The first paragraph was the exact same "canned narrative" given to me earlier today by another so-called expert.

How do you get inside the freezer door of a whirlpool gold gs6nbexrl00 to remove the ice dispenser motor?

  • Underneath one of the door shelves is a plastic place secured by screws. Remove the screws and you will see the motor covering.

My Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refrigerator GS6NVEXSL00 wont give me the ice out the door. It makes ice, but when I press the button on the door nothing happens. Seems like the button went out. HELP!

Does the water dispenser work? Is there a light at the dispenser panel, does it light? Do you hear any noises or motors running when you actuate ice dispenser? You could have a power issue for the dispenser. Some newer whirlpool models have an issue with the wiring leading into the door at bottom being so securley fastened to frame, the lack of movement forces the wires to bend, and in time break, with door usage. If water dispenser works, and you hear no sounds when the ice lever is actuated, then you have a problem with the dispenser panel circuit board. if water works and you hear some sounds when ice lever is actuated, such as a loud popping noise, then you have a bad ice dispenser auger motor, not churning the ice out of the bucket.

There 2 possibilities the auger motor is bad or loose wiring connection or the control switch is bad in the dispenser control. I can assist you if you like. Will wait to hear from you, Sea Breeze

Water Dispenser

GodofHops: The motor that you hear on the refrigerator is the water pump that carries the water to your dispenser. If no water is coming from the dispenser. You have to check 3 things: 1. If there's any water. 2. Water filter clogged. 3. Water line for dispenser clogged with minerales carried on water flow. SithPitt
