Problems with my 52"

My television keeps turning itself on and off sporadically do you know what could be the situation? I would rather not pay a repair man $400 to fix my tv.

As stated above very often it is a cold solder connection. Look for solder to be shiny and re-heat with fresh solder any connection that looks gray in color. If you have a meter you can try to check continuity between the joint and the next component. Try to shake the component and see if you lose connection (resistance goes from ~ 1ohm to higher level and back, then resolder that connection by removing old solder by reflowing and sucking it with a solder removal tool or solder "wick". Then reheat with fresh solder. Iron and all tools needed available at HW store.

Have a sony trinitron tv which turns off automatically and sporadically on average every 15 minutes

Hello
Most of the sony Tv power supplys are based on STR type regulators. Regulation of an STR is very accurate and if any overload inside the ciruit board of the TV, will be sensed by the STR and will shut off all the supply to the system itself. From your complaint we understands that there is some sort of short, not a direct short, is in your tv. Usually it may related to horizontal output transistor. At first it will work fine, but as time pass on, it will get over heated, passes more current, and place a short like circustance to the power supply rail itself, and as described above, STR will sense it and will shut down the system. After some time, say after 10 or 15 minutes, after the heat generated has gone off, the TV will again switch on, and the cycle will be repeated. You just call a technican and keep this in mind, and ask him to repair the same.

Turn off itself and wont turn on. There is a noise, when you plug in. Click, click

Your description indicates that the power supply has failed; the noise you are hearing is probably caused by a relay that is interrupting the AC supply to avoid damaging the supply any further or causing a fire.
Disconnect your set from the wall and allow several hours (overnight is better) so that dangerous voltages have a chance to discharge.  You will have to gain access to the lower section of your system to look for a separate board with larger components on it, some cylindrical (capacitors), some block-like (chokes and transformers). If you can locate this board, it should be user replaceable.

The next step would be to look for unique markings on that board looking like an assembly number. With that in hand and the model number of your set, look for the RCA service center in your area and call them to determine whether they have a repair or replacement assembly.
If only a replacement is available, keep the failed unit for possible repair in the future when the new one fails since mfrs. will not have entire assemblies available in a few years.

Analog Quasar tv keeps turning off.

The bang test is a good indication that there are poor solder connections inside the set. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside the set where potentially dangerous high voltages exist even when unplugged, you can fix this yourself. Look at the main board and resolder any joints that appear grainy or have rings. That should resolve the problem. If not, see if there are any changes in the symptoms and update this.

My RCA 52" tv turns off by itself and won't turn back on. The green power light blinks once and then pauses and then blinks 5 times quickly. What is the problem.

the rca itc22 chasis. microprocessor has detected a safty condition that requires a shutdown of the set for safety. THere is about 25 different resons that cause this to happen. The one thing you can deduced form this condition is that one the main fuse is working and that the processor is receiving power. THe most like cause of this condition is a high voltage problem. the horizontal output transistor, the flyback. look for blown capacitors there is a capacitor called cp150 that common problem. Technician have special computer equipment that reads error codes much like that of a car.

52 HD Samsung tv turns off

I have the same problem with my 56" HD Samsung. It shuts off automatically and then on the power button the word Lamp is light up in green. Sometimes I can turn it back on but other times it won't and I have to wait a bit. It's been embarassing a couple times when people were over for a movie. I believe it might be some kind of overheating problem but would like someone to confirm this.

Sony FD Trinitron KD-34XBR960 34" TV

Our set turns itself off by itself. Prior to this happening, it goes to a green screen. It usually happens after the set has been on for a couple of hours. We bought the set in April, 2004 and the warrantly has now expired. The longer we keep the set on, the more it turns itself off. Is this a tuner, on/off problem or the tube? Any estimates for repair?

Concierge series 25" wont stay on channel 3

If Im not mistaking , some of Zeniths TV sets cannot be unplugged or disconnected from the wall. It will delete the memory and I guess the default channel is Channel 52.. I didnt know you disconnect the set in the ? you asked before. To stop this simply plug the set into an always on wall receptical and turn on the cable then the TV set. your going to need to do this order of operations as I know Zeniths will detune and you wont get any color sometimes if you turn on the TV then the cable. Sorry nothing you can do short of getting another set. Good Luck
