If this is a Whirlpool manufactured TOP LOADER (such as Estate, Roper and Kenmore), a no spin problem can have several causes. Most commonly, this is caused by either a lid switch malfunction or a broken motor coupling. The following link explains how you can diagnose the problem and repair it yourself:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3965207-whirlpool_top_loader_no_spin_problem

If the problem is just the the agitator not working, but everything else does, you may just have a worn agitator cam assembly, worn agitator dogs, loose agitator bolt, or all of the above. The following link explains what agitator dogs are and how to access them:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608577-replacing_agitator_dogs

Whirlpool manufactured washers use a split agitator design. The top half is known as the "auger, while the lower half is the agitator. Between the two pieces is a cam assembly, with small teflon teeth known as "dogs". There's also an agitator bolt that holds the entire assembly to the center post.

If the auger (top half of the agitator) is slipping, I would suspect the dogs or cam assembly need to be replaced. The part number for the dogs is included in the link I provided. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam assembly which includes the dogs, the cam, the cam seal and thrust bearing.

If the entire agitator appears loose or slipping, check the agitator bolt to ensure it is tight. DO NOT overtighten as this can restrict movement of the agitator or damage it. Tighten until snug.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers from the Sears website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. Most of these parts are commonly sold as part of their in-store inventory.

Read through the information provided and let me know if you have any questions. Please include a MODEL NUMBER with any questions you may have. I hope this is helpful to you.

Agitator just clicks when it should be moving. Will not move in wash or spin cycle. Please advise.

Agitator has 4 Teeth - Dog Teeth I Beleve the name is in top part of Agitator. Take softener cap off top of Agitator. There is a plastic cover under softener cap. You need to remove plastic cover then you will see 4 teeth that lock into the agitator replace all 4 teeth make sure you put the teeth back in the same way or it won't work. Old teeth are rounded and won't grab Agitator anymore. Job not hard.

Washer keeps spinning. doesn't move to next cycle

Hi,
It sounds like the agitator , air bell or transmission is failing. Since the unit spins the belt & motor is ok. I recommend removing & inspecting the agitator & air bell. If they are not stripped out then you have a transmission failure.
Or, start the washer at the beginning of a cycle set to the lowest water level. After the unit fills it should be agitating stop the washer. Open the lid & try moving the agitator, if the agitator will not move it is good & no need to remove for inspection. You have a bad transmission. If the agitator moves easily then we know that the agitator or air bell is stripped out & will need to be inspected for confirmation before replacing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Kenmore Series 80 Washer, Model 20852 - Agitator not turning well, making noise

Hi, If the washer spins properly but the agitator does not work, it could be the dog kit needs replaced. If the washer does not agitate or spin, it is probably the coupler.
Put the washer in wash cycle with no laundry in it and see if the lower prt of the agitator moves. If the agitator moves, try and hold the upper half of the agitator and see if it will only move one direction. The agitaor dog kit is designed to only let the top part of the agiator to grab one way. When they go bad, they can make some noise.
To replace the dog kit in the agitator, remove the top cap/rinse dispenser and the inner bolt cover. Remove the 7/16” bolt and lift the agitator out of the washer. Separate the 2 halfs of the agitator and replace the dog kit inside the upper part of the agitator.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Agitator top does not move during cycle. Bottom

Hi, You will need to change the dog kit inside the agitator. Remove the cap on top of the agitator and you will find a 7/16" bolt. Remove the bolt and seperate the agitator. The dog kit is located betwee the 2 pieces.

Agitator movement

Hi, If this is a two piece agitator, start the wash cycle with no laundry in it and see if the lower half of the agitator moves. If the lower half works, you will need to change the dog kit inside the agitator. There is a 7/16" bolt under the agitator cap the will need removed to get the agitator out.
If the agitator does not move at all, It could be the coupler connecting the transmission to the motor. If the coupler is bad, tub will not spin the laundry dry.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

I am unable to remove the agitator from my Kelvinator K605 washin

Before removing the agitator, unplug the washer to avoid an electrical shock hazard.
The agitator's movement back and forth is important for the cleaning of your laundry. If it doesn't function properly, your clothes won't be as clean as possible. If your agitator does not move, moves only in one direction or its movement is very weak, you will probably need to remove the agitator. Furthermore, in order to inspect the tub for leaks, the clutch assembly, the splines, or to remove the spin drum, you will have to remove the agitator.
he agitator is fastened to the agitator shaft and its movement is driven either by splines or a simple clutch assembly. The splines are usually plastic or rubber nubs on a cylinder that fits over the agitator shaft. If the nubs wear down, the shaft will not turn properly or it will turn weakly. If the agitator is moving in only one direction, the likely cause is the clutch assembly. The clutch has dogs that depress and pop up with each turn. If those dogs are worn, they will not engage properly and the agitator will turn only in one direction.
read more about the agitator removal in the next comment.

Kemore 90 Serieswashing machine fills and spins but won't agitate

Remove the agitator and see if the agitator shaft moves during agitate. If it moves then the agitator spline is worn or the agitator dogs are worn and the top half of the agitator will not work. If no results then the gearcase would have to be replaced
