Well after searching for almost 30 mins, I found a site with diagrams of the spindle and quill. It looks to be a newer model, I think your 15.017 is older. anyway, check it out, I hope it will help. The other pages all say to call Delta tools and they will help you, I have the number out in my shop some where. Let me know if you need it. I have an old atlas drill press and I tried to get my spindle out, guess what, I never got it out, I left it in there. I welded the worn spots on the quill and then ground out the slots with a dremel, It works, but it looks like something congress would do.

I thought you could get an idea from the print, but if you can't see it, it does no good. I know that it comes out from the bottom. The chuck should have a screw inside it and it also gets knocked out with a brass hammer or brass driver, The instructions tell you to swing the table out of the way so you can get the quill out, Take off the pulley and the feed handle, you should see some set screws in there. There is one at the top of the quill, along with a bronze bearing and washer, top and bottom, at the top you will find a sleave and bearing, they come off, and by now, the quill should drop out or tap out, along with the spindle. I have addresses of parts places for this, where do you live? I will send you the address. I don't know why the PDF thing won't open for you. Has all kinds of good stuff in there. Don't forget, you can call delta, they will help. Oh and if you just need the chuck off, look for the screw inside and if not, lock up the spindle some how and try to tap it off left and right, there should be a hole in the side for a spanner wrench, but I am not sure what thread it is. It should be right handed. Hope this helps.

Take it to a local engineering sales shop. They are all basically the same and fit into the shaft with a morse taper. You just need the correct taper.

Yes, they are an inferior product. However you can replace the B & D chuck with a Jacobs chuck that will hold up and last for a long time!

I want to put a taping head on my drill press. What is the spindle size of a craftsman 12" drill press?

without the model number I am going to guess that as a general rule most smaller drill presses are a #2 morse taper socket and a #2 jacobs taper arbor (where the chuck presses on) you should have been supplied a knockout pin to remove the chuck assembly from the internal socket.

Damaged chuck on a a.e.g. drill, chuck is one half inch, no screw inside chuck, how do i remove the chuck, the chuck brand is jacobs, thanks, jim

Jacobs makes a couple different kinds. You say no screw inside so I would guess it is the tapered fit. It will require a couple of shims to be driven in between the chuck and head of the drill to press the chuck off. There are tools to do this but sometimes this can be done with shims. Shim each side the same and tap them in equally. If you are familiar with the pickle fork used on auto's to remove ball-joints, something like this may work as well. I hope this helps you.

I have a Clarke BT 1001A and need a new chuck. The original never worked properly. Kept jamming. Where can I get a new chuck. 1/2 inch. The drill press is great.

you should be able to look in the phone book under tools repair find one locally, on the chuck you have it should give you some number like 33BA or 2 Jacobs, you will need this information to make sure that you get the right one, I would try and find a Jacobs chuck for this, they make the better ones, I have used them as replacements for 26 years and the companies that I worked for prefer them. Let me know if you have trouble finding one and I would need that information also.
