When one asks for a diagram of a motherboard, one is asking;
1) What type of Ram Memory slots, and how many,
2) What the internal connectors on the motherboard are,
3) What the motherboard chipset is,
4) What Processor (CPU) socket is used,
5) Plus a host of other questions.
6) What time will Mom have supper ready?

NO,.........not that last one. Just wanted to see if you were following along.........

Put your mouse cursor in the middle of the photo, and use the Zoom In feature.

See the white Processor socket? Rectangle shape with 2 corners cut off, and a flat tip screw in it. Has an AMD Turion X2 Ultra processor sitting in it.

That is a Socket S1 processor socket,

I have a HP Pavillion dv7 with a AMD Turion X2 64 processor. The system hangs sometimes before Windows OS has a chance to boot\initialize and sometimes right after POST. Ran memory checks and hard disk...

Hi david simms,

What you're thinking about the problem with the CPU is correct. Though you need to consider if it is overheating. Here's a simple step to further determine it.

Just access the BIOS setup by pressing F2 (or whatever is key is designed for the unit). Let it sit there and observe if it will freeze up, if yes, surely your guess is right.

Hope this helps.

I have a HP Pavilion DV9418 17" laptop with AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-58 1.9GHz I am told by Staples it has a short in the motherboard where would I buy a new motherboard, hirst9@sympatico.ca

the best place to buy any laptop motherboard is Ebay. Most computer stores or repair shops they don't carry motherboards due to the vast option of brands/models and remember each laptop has an especific size, number of ports, etc.
Just keep in mind when looking for your motherboard make sure is for the CPU you have.
If you search DV9418 on Ebay you might get one for Intel CPUs and others for AMDs. If you have the motherboard's part number would be the best.
I hope this helps.

Amd turion serial ata drivers

Go here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-41728-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3263216&os=228&lang=en

Download and run the file and it will extract the contents into C:\swsetup\SP33031. Inside there will be an IDE\WinXP folder. Those would be the drivers you'd want to slip into your new disk.

I don't have a problem. I just need to know what kind of motherboard my PC has. its a HP Pavilion dv7.1135nr . thank you

I am guessing you are asking because you want to upgrade it?

If not, download this free program, and it will tell you all the info you want to know about your computer: CPU-Z here: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Okay, well you have an AMD based DV7,
The 780G chipset is among the latest from AMD. That chipset supports the Turion ultra processors.
Your system may be running slow because your cpu is running at 500MHz instead of 2Ghz.
You can upgrade your processor to any RM/ZM/QL turion processor.

The processor in your system is socket S1
Your current cpu is a RM-70, 2.0Ghz dual core, 1mb L2, and 31 watt TDP
The RM-74 would be an upgrade to 2.2Ghz dual core, 1mb L2, and 35 watt TDP
However your best upgrade at the moment is the ZM-86,
The ZM-86 is 2.4Ghz Dual core, 2mb L2, and 35 watt TDP

The ZM processors are going for around $200 on ebay
I do not think the 400MHz upgrade is going to be worth $200.
