Question about Dell 1710 Laser Printer

Printer offline Since a few days i get a "printer offline" message when i want to print. I have tried the problemsolver, but i could not find the answer. Toner is okay, the online light is on, cables were good... I removed the printer and it was installed okay again, only the printing doesn't work. I turned the printer off and on again, i restarted the pc, nothing worked. The 1710 laserprinter is connected by usb, i put the usb in another usb-socket, but it did not work either. I cannot print a testpage either cause of the offline-error i get. I don't understand... can anyone help?

    Hello txsup,

    i went to the Dell-site and there in the support-tab found a troubleshootingmanual.
    It seems to be an computer or software problem, the printer is okay.

One possible reason could be that manually printer had gone offline.

You can go to Control panel - > printer & Faxes settings and right click your printer and click on user printer online. If you doen'nt find this option on right click means it is already in online mode, but somehow not able to communicate to the printer. Right click the printer and go to properties, click on port tab search for USB port and select USB.

Refer to the operating manual for printing test pages from printer.

    Thank you for your review. Try two things just to make sure problem it is not with your driver.



    1. Restart Printer Spooler services


    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
    2. Type the following commands at the command prompt:
      net stop spooler ( to stop the service )
      net start spooler ( to start the service )

    and check your printer status in Printer and Faxes. If it offline or online



    Second, Try installing Generic problem, this will make sure that you do not have any computer software or OS problem. Generic printer is just Text mode printer driver and works with almost all range of Printers.



    And check to see if you are able to test page with generic printer driver

If you are getting a status message as the printer is offline on your pc,and afterward you can't ready to print the reports.
Steps to Resolve the Printer Offline Issue:
Step 1:
At first, you need to check your network through the HP Scan Doctor which encourages you to discover and fix the printing issues.

The ink toner is is now infected by foriegn matters by effecting the printer laser head.Tries air compressor machine blow out the ink toner print head ink injector and laser printer print head.Wait about and hour reinstall the the ink toner to the printer,the toner should work find again.Not the ink toner is not saveable,must have be replace for normal operation again.

I would not advise you to refill a toner cartridge becausethe toner powder is very fine and you do not want to breath in this tonerpowder.When the toner cartridge is exhausted or empty then theprinter will not be able to print further documents or the prints will be veryfaint.You may be able to print a few more pages by removing thetoner cartridge and shaking the toner cartridge in a horizontal position a fewtimes and then placing it back into the printer.This will give you an opportunity to print a few more pages and giveyou time to purchase a new toner cartridge for your printer. A cheaperalternative is to purchase a re-manufactured toner cartridge for your modelprinter.A re-manufactured printer cartridge also replaces worn partsas well as refilling with toner powder.

I can not get anything to print on my Epson NX420 using my IMAC. It says the printer is offline and I can't even print a test page. Can you help?


I'm assuming the printer worked previously from the iMac and now it does not. If you never had it connected, please add a comment to this effect, and include your OS version.

First, Open the Print Center (Printer Utility) and check the status of the printer. It may be listed as stopped. If so, delete any extra print jobs (additional attempts to print the page), then click the Start Jobs icon.

You can verify printer connectivity by clicking Add in the Printer List (if that is not visible, select Show Printer List from the View menu). Be sure to select either the USB or wireless network protocol connection. If the NX420 shows up, you have a good connection. In that case, click cancel and skip the next paragraph.

If you are printing via USB, check the cable (I sometimes forget to plug in my printer cable after downloading from my camera). If you are printing via your wireless network, check the status of the wireless connection from the printer.

Also, in the printer utility window, click the Supply Levels icon to verify that all of the ink cartridge levels are high enough to permit printing.

Are there any error messages on the printer display? A fault detection will take the printer offline.

Lexmark E250d - have just installed new cartridge & now won't print. ! light & toner light are both steady orange.


Define "won't print".
Does your computer show the printer as attached, and "online" or "offline" ?
When you try to print a "test" page, do you get an error-message? Exactly what?

Printer offline


Several printers are connected to my Dell and sometimes without paying attention I forget which printer I'm using. On your print set up page scroll down until to your printer and select it. If you have only one printer, then select it as your default printer.

Trying to print 'offline'. Computer recognises it is offline but will not print. Error message says 'Printer is offline' which is as it should be. Printer is HP photosmart C4580.


So, if you want to print, the printer must be online. Offline method doesn't work to print. When the computer sayst that the printer is offline, it means ypur printer is turned off or you don't connected the printer to PC.
As in conclusion, if you want to print set the printer online.
