If you have to run the choke FULL to keep it running, then you're starving for fuel.
1. Check the fuel filter to make sure it isn't plugged.
2. Check the tank for debris and clean if needed.
3. Take the fuel line loose from the carb and see if you get sufficient flow of fuel out of the line.
4. You can take the carb off and clean it with spray carb cleaner. Take the bowl off and inspect the needle/seat of the intake for cleanliness.
Check back and let me know how it's going.

Engine runs fine. But it quits when I pull the trigger on the wand to start washing

Does this behavior change if the engine is warm and on minimum choke? Do you get any water spray before the engine quits? Carburetor could be dirty or float stuck. Try putting dose of carburetor cleaner through engine and cycle choke lever and engine speed lever back and forth while engine is running after it has warmed up without running water spray. See owners manual.

Why is my Craftsman lawn tractor so hard to start?

Most likely needs valves adjusted. If you can give model number off of the engine, i can try to find the manual or instructions on how to do this for you.

Crafsman 25cc weedwacker won't stay running

You probably have a bad hose or a bad hose connection that is sucking mostly air instead of delivering full fuel to the carburetor!

I have a craftsman weed wacker model 316.79197 It will cut off when i pull the trigger to give gas. what should i check ?

Be sure the exhaust port is not clogged. Be sure the choke lever is in the run position. Also you might try letting it warm up half choked before you "pull the trigger"

You should be able to push it forwards as well as backwards. I had a similar problem (engine stalling) with mine. I found out if I half choke it, it will stay running. Transmission may still have a problem.

Where should the choke lever be to start my craftsman 5 hp tiller. Should it go toward the engine,or back toward the handle.

it is normal to have small graphic items at each end of the lever. Tortoise and a Hare.
To start from cold, move the the lever fully towards the Hare (choke Position) when started and the engine begins to hunt move slowly towards the Tortoise until the engine sounds HAPPY. When the engine is warm move the lever towards the Tortoise until the engine attains a smooth tickover speed. If you move the lever fully toward the Tortoise the engine may stop depending upon the carburettor setting.

Try this:- Push your lever fully forward and try to start having made sure that the petrol valve is open (if it has one) and that the carb has been primed (if you have a primer button). If the engine does not start after 3 good attempts leave the machine to rest for 15 minutes. Then; push the handle fully back towards the handle and try to start it as above. I presume that you will have a spark at the plug and correct fuel for the engine in the tank also the engine oil is at the correct level. Some garden equipment also has a switch to allow the power from the battery to the starting mechanism.

Give it a try, I hope this helps.

I start the engine and it sputters at fast idle and then eventually shuts off.

I think that after you start the engine you need to move the throttle lever off what you are calling fast idle (which is full choke). Simply slide the throttle lever down until it smooths out and runs properly.

Lawn tractor forward movement problem

Check the adjustment from the lever to the transaxle, if the linkage is ok the transaxle may be suffering from age and has leaking internal seals.

2003 craftsman ys4500 model number917 276680 died

Mine did same thing, need to manually adjust choke. If you raise hood and adjust your throttle you will see that when you press up to choke that it actually hits & pushed in choke. But when you back off if it is like mine the choke doesn't come off, so I manually pulled choke to off & mine started right up. I am still trying to find how or where cable came off for the choke to be adjusted by throttle lever. That is why I was on here looking for photo of engine.

Lawnmower wont move in fwd or reverse

Is the brake sticking. On my craftsman mower there is a bar under the brake pedal that pushes back a lever when starting. And the lever sticks. I have to reach underneath and pull the lever forward and then the mower goes. I haven't found a solution to that yet.
