I want to connect my Denon av1500

I do not know which cables and where to connect for the following:
Denon av1500
Sony Bravia HDTV
Cable box for tv
Toshiba DVD/CD player

I like to turn on my Denon to use speakers to watch movies, etc.
I cannot find my Denon book to show where everything should be connected. I am a novice and need explicit directions.
Thanks so much!

SOURCE: how to connect using a LCD monitor, cable box, DVD player

You won't need the VCR, that's only used for a cable box, and since you have one now there is no need. You'll want to connect everything with the better video plugin possible. Composite (red, white, yellow) is the worst, then s-video, then component (red, blue, green), then DVI, then HDMI. That will square your video. Then send all audio signals to the Denon. These cables are usually the red and white cables. OR Plug everything into the Denon to the appropriate input. Then connect the monitor to the video out of the Denon.

SOURCE: Speaker crackle

HDMI is a High Definition Multimedia Interface and has the capability to transmit both AUDIO and VIDEO all in one cable. Your setup right now is transmitting 2 audio frequecys (L/R stereo RCA and HDMI) into the Denon inputs. Not necessary! I would recommend eliminating the red/white audio cable from the direct tv box to the Denon.

After doing such, your receiver should be able to process audio/video signals appropriately. REMEMBER to unplug all POWER CORDS before reconnecting any speaker/audio/video cable, as it may cause a small electrical surge and fry a micro component in your system!

Why is my sony bravia not tuning in and can you tell me how to fix it

The TV is probably not seeing the signal. Are the cords connected in the right slots on the cable box and TV (cable TV wire into the cable input connector on box, and cable out to the TV in the cable out connector on the box, and then connected to the right connector on the back of the TV)? Or, maybe you may need to go into the TV screen options and choose the the right external source that will allow the TV to see the signal.

you have to connect the tv tuner directly to the coax cable coming in. The receiver will not tune tv channels. You can then connect the tv to the receiver via optical cable

TV's are not your best source of audio. Get the TV-related audio digitally from the source, NOT the TV.

you may have to set the input value on the bravia for optical on the input from the cable box. sometimes there is more than one way for a particular input to receive an audio signal, you may have rca(red and white), a black or orange rca type for digital, and then the optical. i would suspect you have to tell the bravia how the sound is inputed into the bravia. also , just a thought.... on the cable box there should be a volume control on the front of the box........ make sure the cable box volume is ALL the way up (it is the preamp volume).

My sony bravia has no audio when used as cable tv

Check the connections between the cable box and the TV. If you are using scart check the connector is in squarely if using rgb or composite you need a separate audio connection using the red and white phon sockets.

Sony Bravia Dav-HDX279W and comcast HDTV Cable box connection.

Like above, use an optical connection (need fiber optic cable) or a coaxial connection (single RCA cable). HDMI might also work, but I personally haven't checked. Connect the audio outs from the cable box to the audio ins on the home theater. The TV will only need a video connection from the cable box, as well as one from the home theater (for DVDs, onscreen menus).

This discussion can help you set up the universal remote.
