Question about Maytag MER6772 Gemini Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Maytag Gemini Dual Oven MER6772BCA

Our Maytag Gemini MER6772 seems to have burned out the upper right coil in the upper oven. The upper oven would not turn off and the control panel was extremely hot. I had to throw the breaker switch to turn off the range.

Any suggestions as to what might be going on?

Thanks, I will check it out. Where would you recommend the part be purchased from?

Can you tell me if this is something I can do myself or is a tech required? Any hidden issues?

I replaced the element in the upper oven MER6772 BAC and it seems to be working although the temperature does not seem to be as before. In addition, one of the rear cooktop elements is not coming on. Can anyone please advise as to what might be going on or if this is coincidental?

Sounds like the broil elemnt in the upper oven is shorting itself out part number 74004106, probly 45 bucks. leave the circuit off adn replace it... the wire(s) leading to it are always live.theres a few screws across the top of the cavity holding it up

Power went out, now ovens are 'locked' - how to unlock?

I DO know the lower oven door can be released by lifting gently up and to the right, and a little 'joggling' will allow the door to be opened. It seems the lock latch swings to the (almost) locked position unpredictably and intermittently. I hate this @#$% stove. So does my wife.
The upper oven door has never seized. Upper oven has burned through several elements, and it's dangerous to replace. NEVER TRY ANYTHING WHEN CIRCUITS ARE STILL LIVE.
I hate thjis stove. I REALLY DO HATE IT.

Gemini Electric Range MER6772BAS- lower oven upper heating coil doesn't work. Everything else works fine.

Replace upper coil by removing, and take it to applance parts dept and have them order a new coil(check coil by using a test meter look for low ohms.

F1-1

Hello,
Your Maytag Gemini is giving you the fault code for either that's it's lonely or for a "Runaway Cook Upper Oven". Now that I look at the choices the one I made up doesn't seem so funny.
Yes you have a runaway upper oven. The repair manual says to check the oven temperature sensor and replace if necessary.
Your temperature sensor will look similar to the ones in the image below.
Chances are you need a new one. If your handy with tools, replacing it is pretty straight forward.
Try the link I included for parts. They are as cheap as anyone else.
Hope this helps.

sure sounds coincidental, most of the time its a faulty infinite the elements rarely go bad, i guess you can pop the top up first and look fro a burnt wire

MER6770 Fault Code

No. just the one sensor part number 12001656. After paying a maytag repairman twice, I will now for the third time replace it myself, google the part number and you will see the different companies that sell it. Price runs up to 40.00, next time buy a different product and hope that Maytag goes out of business!!!! I know I will!!!
