My vacuum has cord real problems. It quit working but as I real the cord in and out it will start and stop. So do I need to replace the cord real unit or can I repair it somehow? And If I can repair it,...

If you can get into the reel unit check and see if you have a broken wire . I had one like this and I repaired the wire and the reel was ok after that. I fixed another where the wire and reel were both broken and instead of spending the money for a new reel I pulled the cord out of the reel and hooked the wire back up to the machine and then the cord just would not wind up any more but it worked that way for a long time.

You must reset the outside unit every time you change a battery. To rest insert a paperclip into the small whole marked "reset". Temperatures should now appear on the inside or remote unit.

I have a Hoover upright Model # U5445-900. I am trying to replace the power cord but can not find access to the inside of the unit. thanks , Paul

Paul

Should be screws holding the handle together. They put it in, it had to go somehow. Look for holes that maybe covered over.

Paul, these are general tips, I am not familiar with this specific model. I have worked on many Hovers in the past though not as a professional Hoover repair guy.

Good luck on your project

Motor noise CV 353

its not that bad to take apart and blow out the motor with a compressor, but if that dust got into the bearings of the motor it could be ruined.

Brushes not contacting floor

It is unlikely that you have worn the brushes to the point that they no longer contact the floor properly unless you use it daily and have a very rough tile or concrete floor and even then they should outlast the machine. It is more likely that there is a problem with the switch that moves them up and down for different floor settings. Also remember that the brushes will be up while the unit is in the upright position no matter what the switch is set to only when you bring the handle down in the operating position do the brushes lower to contact the floor. Pull the brushes out and check to see nothing is interfering with the operation of the brush adjustment or for any broken parts. As for the squeegee they do get deformed and this will prevent the unit for sucking up the water properly so it should be replaced if needed. For any parts visit www.stevessewandvac.com if you don't see what you need listed email them someone can help.
