Apply a different shape fill You can fill a selected shape (such as data markers, titles, data labels, or a legend) with a solid color, gradient, picture, or texture. You cannot use shape fill to format lines in a chart (such as gridlines, axes, trendlines, or error bars).

On a chart, click the chart element that you want to change, or do the following to select it from a list of chart elements:

  1. Click a chart. This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.
  2. On the Format tab, in the Current Selection group, click the arrow next to the Chart Elements box, and then click the chart element that you want to use.
On the Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, click Shape Fill

  1. Do one of the following:
    • To use a different fill color, under Theme Colors or Standard Colors, click the color that you want to use. Tip Before you apply a different color, you can quickly preview how that color affects the chart. When you point to colors that you may want to use, the selected chart element will be displayed in that color on the chart.
    • To remove the color from the selected chart element, click No Fill.
    • To use a fill color that is not available under Theme Colors or Standard Colors, click More Fill Colors. In the Colors dialog box, specify the color that you want to use on the Standard or Custom tab, and then click OK. Custom fill colors that you create are added under Recent Colors so that you can use them again.
    • To fill the shape with a picture, click Picture. In the Insert Picture dialog box, click the picture that you want to use, and then click Insert.
    • To use a gradient effect for the selected fill color, click Gradient, and then under Variations, click the gradient style that you want to use. For additional gradient styles, click More Gradients, and then in the Fill category, click the gradient options that you want to use.
    • To use a texture fill, click Texture, and then click the texture that you want to use.
Tip If you don't like the change that you made, you can undo it immediately. On the Quick Access Toolbar, click Undo I cannot use fill colour for shapes, text boxes - default.aspx?assetid=za101819851033, or press CTRL+Z.

POWERPOINT 2007 TIP: CHANGE THE SHAPE OF A WORDART TEXT OBJECT

This is a student's question from a MS PowerPoint class that I taught recently:

I need your help to use WordArt in PowerPoint to change the shape of some text, but I cannot figure out how to do it. Our textbook does not seem to be any help, nor is the help function in PowerPoint. The WordArt button on the Insert tab only lets me change the colors and style, not the shapes. I remember we did it in class, but I have been unable to re-create it.

WordArt is a way to add PIZZAZZ to your text. It's great for grabbing a reader's attention in your documents. Design Tip: As with all graphics, bullets, and special effects, a little goes a long way. Use these features wisely and you won't overload your readers.

Changing the shape of WordArt in PowerPoint is a simple task:
  1. Insert the WordArt text that you wish to have displayed.

Go to the INSERT TAB, WordArt Group and choose the style that you'd like from the WordArt Gallery. Then simply type your message in the compose box and click on OK.

  2. Click on the WordArt you created to select it.

  3. You should see a special Tab appear at the top that says "DRAWING TOOLS"

  4. Select from the Word Styles Group, TEXT EFFECTS

  5. Then select TRANSFORM and choose the shape you'd like to try on your text.

I have changed my XP for a Windows 7 with Office 2010. I cannot find the facility in Word 2010 to draw lines between text, erasor, etc. (which I find very useful when constructing Family Trees.) Is there...

Almost all the features of Older versions of MS Office are available in Office 2007 & 2010.
If you are working with tables, and wish to add/ draw lines using pen and use eraser, then after drawing the table, click the drop down and select 'Draw Table' and the table borders editing options will be displayed after clicking the table (the pen and eraser). The picture below shows the steps:

Hi, I've just installed Microsoft Office Publisher 2010 on my PC (Vista Basic). It works fine and everything. However the saved publisher files have icons like blank pages and won't open automatically...

Hello:
You can manually locate Microsoft Publisher when going to the "open with" dialog. Follow the steps below:
  1. Right click on a Publisher file.
  2. Choose "Open With..."
  3. Choose "Choose Default Program..."
  4. A dialog box will open. There is a list of programs at the top.
  5. Near the bottom of the dialog box, there should be a link that says "Browse..." Click it.
  6. You need to locate the Microsoft Publisher Program. For Office 2010, it should be at:
x86: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 14\MSPUB.exe
x64: C:\Program FIles (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office 14\MSPUB.exe
7. Click once on the file and choose "Open" 8. Check the box called "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" 9. Confirm your selections and click "OK" at the bottom of the dialog box.
